What do you recommend for the first time gun buyer wishing to spend $500 -$700?

I went with a Smith & Wesson EZ9, with the grip safety. It was the first handgun I ever purchased, though I fired many weapons during my 8 years in the Army. I rented one at a local gun range, fired 50 rounds. My groupings became tighter as I got more comfortable with the weapon. It felt great in my hand, and the grip safety is a feature that I really liked. It would not fire unless I was holding it firmly and correctly.

I paid about $520 at a local Academy. The staff in Lewisville TX was helpful and very knowledgeable. LOL, the manager said he knew I was ex-military by the way I carried myself. I gave him a big hint when I saw my wife holding a gun in a lackadaisical manner...I jumped in, grabbed her wrist and pointed the gun upward.

They're the folks I'm going to see in the future.

Don't take my advice, go to a local range and test several different weapons, to see what suits you best. I went to the range with a BIL, who has over a dozen handguns. I test fired several different handguns, but I kept going back to the EZ9, it just felt better.

I think my wife is representative of the public mood today. Up until 2 weeks ago, she was adamant that we would have no guns in our house. That changed overnight, and she was the driving force behind our purchase.

Madness is watching cities burn and not have an urge to buy a gun.

THAT is madness.

Mine might be “racist” due to including the ill-fated Persian emissary.

The primary reason for the 2nd Amendment in the Bill of Rights of the Constitution is to protect the citizenry from the tyranny of the government.

It's not about target shooting or sport hunting like the Left tries to make it out to be all of the time.

So when the government attempts to control the population with lockdowns and mask wearing and social distancing, people get nervous and see an overreach by the government.

It's a natural reaction of people to start stocking up on weapons and ammunition when the government starts to act like a dictator and withholding their freedoms and liberties from them.

And then when the government unleashes the rent-a-mobs, rioters, looters and arsonists on the community to create anarchy and chaos and destroy portions of major cities, this makes law abiding citizens more inclined to stock up on more guns and ammo to prepare for the worst to come.

And the LA Times is shocked, I tell you. Absolutely shocked that this is happening.

Liberal idiots.

That’s very helpful. Thank you. I’ve never had a gun because I haven’t felt the need to own one. It’s a far different story now.

“owned by about a third of the population”

What is the actual percentage?

The Leftists see the 'arming up' as madness, because in the socialist mindset, you must run out of things. That's how they measure efficiency: socialism necessarily limits quantities– they can't conceive of a surplus because a surplus means they did something wrong.

Thus, a surplus of guns (guns for everyone?) indicates a flaw, madness.

That makes me think...

With the current shortages of ammo, you know what would make the libs completely lose their minds? If Trump instructed the military to make common calibers available to the public as surplus. And even better if he took control of the manufacturers, and made them put on 3 shifts 'until the shortage is alleviated'.

Bwahaha hahahah
