The Boy Scouts in my town are down to one small troop. 20 years ago we had 3 active troops. The Council just put their building up for sale. The Scouts are fading away.
The BSA needs to reduce the cost for a kid belonging in the organization. Each camp-out costs hundreds of dollars. To join it’s $100 depending on the troop. Annual membership fee is $66 and the cost of the uniform, about $150 to $185.
I am also a Life scout. My son got his Eagle in 2013.
This is flat out disgusting. Politicizing the scouts? Merit badge to show support for BLM?
It was liberalism imposed by corporate donors. Big money meant places on boards for people who hated the BSA. They should have walked away but money...
I see many lawyer adds trolling for victims of abuse in the BSA. If the BSA had not given in to the diversity mongers in the first place, these whores would not be after them.
The PC nonsense has gotten out of control. Let the butt boy loving, BLM-groveling institution die.
Hard to believe they would choose to do this, are they going to require Safe Sodomy techniques too??
Parents enrolling theis sons in the Scouts these days are child abusers.
I belonged to a social group that supported in part the local scouts. I left a few years ago when they became the new organization: scouting boys. When asked by the president of our group why, I told her. She said she was surprised at how closed minded I was. I will self censor my comment to her.
I was a scout 60 years ago. Our troop was 100% christian and led by a scout master who had landed at Normandy. My dad and I hunted and fished with a few of his assistants. There was no hint of any scandal. None of my cohorts was ever in trouble with the law nor with drugs. It was a great organization at that time. The political and diversity culture has completely destroyed it as it has every other thing it touches including the USA.
Unfortunately BSA is already gone!

The smartest thing the left ever did was take over the corporate world. Now when we see stories like this it is apparent they have outflanked us.
Back when I was a scout in the late 60’s our troop was on an Air Force base.
The dads would get permissive TDY (time off) to go to camps and our week long canoe trip each summer. Canoe rental from the Council was very cheap. Meals were inexpensive and large volume.
We all knew what the costs were and shoveled a lot of driveways in the winter and mowed yards in the summer to save up money.
And we could go to the base movie theater and catch the Saturday matinee, getting a popcorn and soda all for 50 cents.
Back in the day a Scout received a badge if he helped an old person cross the street. Times sure have changed.
That’s probably one of the D & I merit badge requirements.
Next up: The Sodomy and Kiddie Porn badges...
The Boy Scouts are run by single moms. Dads bailed on their kids years ago.
They probably have a piss sitting down badge.
I’m going to take a sledge hammer to my Eagle medal. Damn them all to Hell.
The cost of camp-outs shouldn't be that high. That's under the troop's control. National has high legal costs, so there's a component of that probably reflected in dues. Our troop is very mindful of the cost to families. High adventure trips are a lot more expensive, but they involve travel and the price of things like sailing, mountain backpacking, etc. Regular camping trips are typically around $30. It doesn't cost that much to rent campground space and buy food. Troop dues reflect the cost of merit badges and other patches. That can add up over the course of a year. A single merit badge patch runs nearly $3. It adds up. Our boys troop of ~100 can easily spend $900 on merit badge and rank patches in the fall after a busy summer of camping and high adventure activities. Fundraising helps, but not all kids embrace it with equal enthusiasm.
We are a scouting family with four Eagles. We aren't happy about some of the changes, but it is still a good organization. They have been fighting heavy pressure for years by those who reject traditional American values.
Eagle Scout and former Scoutmaster writing here. The leadership of the BSA has lost its bearing. Totally lost to liberal culture. My brother and my son are both eagles. I am not recommending my three grandsons follow in these steps. The Boy Scouts are not now training boys to become fruitful, skilled, productive, healthy American citizens. Just the opposite. This breaks my heart. God will not look kindly on the leadership of this once awesome organization.
