Richmond police chief resigns as tensions escalate in Virginia capital

Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney announced on Tuesday that he'd requested Police Chief Will Smith's resignation, in light of how local law enforcement has handled various protests over the past several weeks.

Stoney, a Democrat, said Smith complied with the request to step down and then thanked him for his past public service.

"At a very minimum, I expect [the police] to be able to come to the table with the community to reform public safety. So it boils down to whether the leadership of [the Richmond Police] embraces the change," Stoney said during a press conference.

For some reason many of us aren’t in favor of coddling criminal behavior and choosing not to punish them. The left is having trouble comprehending that.

Richmond is like all big cities now, a poisoned chocolate core with a few yuppie and and hipster sprinkles.

There is a wider agenda at work here. Very, very few see it. And even fewer wish to see or understand it.

Do you see this “wider agenda” as a good or bad thing?

>> There is a wider agenda at work here.

Yup, and telecom/ISP providers like ATT & Comcast are in on it.

I lived there in the early 90’s and really loved it. I still like Richmond.

Yeah, I’m not gonna get ahead of sport on this, but I’m 90% sure about the implication.

Richmond. It’s political leadership should be burned down like so many of their buildings have been in the past.

They are corrupt, racist, Democrat incompetent hacks.

Let’s see what happens over the next week.

I had to pull my daughter out of college down there because of drugs, corrupt cops, and crime in general. Best thing I ever did.

Richmond is beautiful, but the tribesmen are restless. I can't believe that they vandalized monument avenue, one of the most beautiful and soul moving promenades in the whole USA.

If one has never seen it, I would urge them to visit it before the taliban finishes it off. Governor blackface, the would be mullah, is plotting its destruction.

My focus concerns the macro/global agenda — though, I wouldn’t consider it obvious given the lack of interest & attention.

The Fan is beautiful area. I loved Monument Avenue. I lived on Patterson for a year or so during the few years there. I was in my mid 20’s. A perfect age to live in that area. Lunches in the fan, beers in the little bars. Nights in shoco slip. Coffee on Carey. I worked in Innsbrook. So I had the best of both worlds.
