Is the ‘CHOP’ here to stay? City adds concrete barriers to Seattle’s occupied protest zone

SEATTLE -- The occupied protest zone in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood known as the CHOP is getting some extra safety measures from the city.

Tuesday morning, the Seattle Department of Transportation replaced tent barriers with concrete barriers around the edges of the six-nine block protest zone surrounding the abandoned SPD East Precinct.

The barriers will help to prevent cars from driving through the protesters, which happened last week, while also leaving a travel lane for emergency responders.

Although the occupied protest has remained largely peaceful since it popped up more than a week ago, residents and business owners in the area have raised safety concerns over police response times tripling and officers not responding to calls inside the zone.

Mayor Jenny Durkan said Tuesday that the city is making changes to accommodate the protesters while still protecting nearby businesses and residents.

"While there have been inaccurate and misleading depictions of the CHOP from the president and some national media, the city believes first amendment activities can continue," the city said in a prepared statement Tuesday.

it’s been said that businesses are avoiding being vandalized, not necessarily ‘supporting’ the protestors. Who are getting wilder in their colonization demands:

“Because it would be absolutely nothing for the residents living in apartments of occupied territory to be relocated. But they haven’t taken that route, yet they use them and the businesses as a reason for needing this”

“The Democrats have bought a legal serving of tort flavored whoop ass.”

Shalom. Like everything else the Democrats have done so far, I don’t think they have gamed this through. I suspect that if local Republicans run on a restore sanity agenda they will sweep the elected offices. Even liberal land owners in Seattle will feel threatened by these shenanigans. (I am assuming there are still republicans in Seattle. Probably hiding in closets.) The current local courts, however, will probably will not find in favor of the residents because they are all fed on unicorn poop. Unless, of course, the judge lives in the CHOP.
