The antagonism to the nuclear family comes straight out of Friedrich Engels’ The Origin of the Family, Private Property, and The State.
Capitalism grew out of, and is built on, the twin foundations of private property and the nuclear family, headed by a father figure (patriarch) Engels says.
Thus the patriarchy/ nuclear family MUST be destroyed in order to bring capitalism crashing down.
This is a somewhat oversimplified summary of Engels’ thesis, but suffice to say, the collapse of the family & rise of the socialist state are not coincidental. The 2 phenomena are by design & integral to one another.
