“The Senate has become the House of Lords.,,,,”The Founding Fathers are spinning.”
A reason for the idea is needed. And yours is???
What is your thinking that concludes the Senate as now like the U.K. House of Lords?
I know what the HoL does :-)
The point I was attempting to make was that, like the HoL, our Senate is full of rich, entitled, upper class twits who think the seat they hold is theirs by right, and you can’t bleeping get rid of them.
Why the 17th was ratified is the interesting story.
I gather that there is a Liberaltarian candidate in the race and some here are angry that the Liberaltarian will take votes from the Republican. That is not how it works. Liberaltarians are actually Democrat’s who are just too ashamed to call themselves Democrats. If there was no Liberaltarian party candidate these people would vote for the Democrat and hope no one found out about it.
When one of these quislings votes for his own candidate it doesn’t hurt the Republican, it hurts the Democrat.
Over the years, when I have come into contact with Democratic political activists, many of them impressed me as wounded souls. My instinctive reaction was often pity, with no lessening of my determination to smash them politically.
I think in most cases you are right. At the worst, Libertarians get half their votes from D's and half from R's.
I like his chances! Looks like a winner to me.

Simple answer, The Seventeenth Amendment...
NM good news ping!
Yes, that is the painful reality. We need to keep the Senate for the judicial appointments
That alone, though a bad thing, is not a sufficient reason, in my opinion.
