In the wake of Rayshard Brooks’ death recently in Atlanta and George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis, both incidents involving law enforcement, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) took to MSNBC to call for the establishment of a “Department of Reconciliation.”
Green, on Saturday, said having a secretary of the Department of Reconciliation would work to “eliminate racism and discrimination in this country.”
“Black lives just don’t matter as much as white lives,” Green argued. “And this is something that can only be cured by quick reactions from mayors such as what the mayor of Atlanta has done. She’s done the right thing. And also, we have to have speedy arrests and speedy trials. This will help. But in the long run, we will have to reconcile. We have not reconciled our differences in this country. We are still in a state of amnesty at best, wherein we are still trying to determine what our status is in this country. We ought to, at some point, reconcile. This is why I have introduced legislation to have a department of reconciliation with a secretary of reconciliation that reports to the President of the United States whose job it will be to develop a strategy and implement the strategy to eliminate racism and discrimination in this country.”

My first reaction is that it would be as successful as the War on Drugs was on eliminating drugs and the War on Poverty was at eliminating poverty.
But there is a HUGE difference. True racism is almost entirely non-existent but drugs and poverty will never go away.

We have a rule of law. The police officer was charged and is entitled to his day in court. The businesses looted and burned were owned by people who had nothing to do with the death of Floyd. If they were targeted because the owners were white, then they are worse than the cop, in my opinion. At least the cop was apprehending a criminal who was committing a crime. What was the owners of Target and Walmart guilty of?
Save the money, just ban and exile all democrat politicians from the country....problem solved!

Not really. Blacks need to make an effort to end their discrimination. The old example of a white man having his car break down in a black neighborhood versus a black man breaking down in a white neighborhood are likely to have vastly different outcomes. Other minorities have less discrimination and blacks need to ask why, since discrimination is a learned behavior. The reason is because of the way blacks treat whites...it's a two-way street. Since the War on Poverty started, we have thrown over $3 trillion to help minorities, but I see little coming back to the taxpayer from those funds. White and blacks need to work on their prejudices.

Post-Civil War constitutional lawmakers maybe should have included anti-discrimination, anti-segregation language in the 13th, 14th or 15th Amendments.
On the other hand, misguided federal lawmakers like Green are showing that they don’t care what the Constitution that they swore to protect and defend says anyway.
