We are researching now but we are 100% going (it was going to be Mexico but AMLO pretty much put a stop to that).
No need if you are 100% going to CR. Check out Inetes de Osa
on the Osa penisula. The only issue there might be medical care, an extreme event could be a problem as it’s a 2 hour car ride plus a 3 hour boat ride to get there. I guess a helicopter could be sent. They do have a clinic but I’m guessing it’s primitive. Heck, one of my Colorado towns puts you on a helicopter to Denver for major stuff.
Medical facilities there would be my prime concern. Americans already settled in CR have all the info you need. There may be an association of them you can find.
I've considered Panama. There are some favorable laws for people looking to move down there. I still have a good ways to go before I actually retire, but it never hurts to look and weigh your options.
