Rand Paul announces 'Justice for Breonna Taylor Act' barring No-knock warrants
Fox News ^ | June 12th | By Louis Casiano

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., introduced a bill Thursday to end "no-knock" warrants like the one that led to the shooting death of an African-American woman earlier this year.

The Justice for Breonna Taylor Act would prohibit federal law enforcement from forcibly entering a home without announcing their purpose for executing the warrant and their authority. The measure is named after Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT who was fatally shot by Louisville officers on March 13 after they used a battering ram to enter her home.

The officers were executing a drug warrant in search of a male suspect who didn't live in her apartment complex. He had already been detained prior to the warrant being executed.

Taylor, who was studying to become a nurse, was shot eight times and died. No drugs were found in her home. A four-page incident report of the shooting is drawing criticism after it appeared virtually blank and inaccurate, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

“After talking with Breonna Taylor’s family, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s long past time to get rid of no-knock warrants,” Paul said in a statement. “This bill will effectively end no-knock raids in the United States.”

No-Knock raids seem dangerous for everyone involved. Since I think its something both republicans and democrats could agree with I doubt it will pass.

The Police would be against it.

Be interesting to see if Dems would vote for this?

It will initially pass in the Senate, but when it comes back from House it will fail because Pelosi will have added $200 million for Transgender Wig Subsidies.

I’m for this one. Police shouldn’t play CQB soldiers.

Pelosi would probably not pass it just to spite Rand and other Republicans who may vote for this. She is so nasty!

On balance Paul MIGHT be right. There have been more than a few tragedy’s from these things. Yes it gives the bad guys a chance to dump some small amounts of drugs but too may have gotten killed when the cops got the wrong house. On the other hand they prevent an armed standoff or hostage set up. So it is a tough call.

No knocks and asset forfeiture both must go.

What happened to that lady could have happened to any one of us. After all, when you hear your front door come crashing in, would you first think to lie prone on the floor with your arms extended? I wouldn’t.

So yes, this is a good move by Paul. But it’s important to note that his bill would apply to federal officers only.

This is a good thing. But, it is dangerous for the officers. But as a armed citizen if someone were to break into my house unannounced, I would shoot them.

This saddens the drug dealers who report other drug dealers.

Other than MS, FB, Amazon not selling face recognition SW until there are federal protections, this is one more good thing to come out of this whole mess.

They will never stop stupid or violent cops from being stupid or violent, since they are a sample of the population. To be clear I am not picking on cops. However, things like this can help get control of our overpowering of our police, which I do believe it a real solvable problem. The problem occurs when you get this small subset of cops that is a cross section of the negatives of our population, and combines them with the powerful tools developed by SW engineers to make it hard for anyone to hide in plain sight.

In the olden days they used to send out individual deputies with a list of people to arrest. Now, they either send four or they go in with a SWAT group. I had some elderly and infirm renters who had “my” door knocked down by 12 SWAT members who arrived at three AM in an armored car. The day before the deputies had put this drunk and disorderly couple to bed after noticing forty 10 inch pot plants. Was this necessary? Why didn’t they arrest them instead of putting them to bed? I wouldn’t ban no-knock raids. But I’d like to see the sheriff himself and the local top political leader both sign off on them before they happen. That would cut it down to just where it’s appropriate. (Instead of letting the gung-ho types play dress-up and be macho._)

No-Knock raids should end, same with civil forfeiture.

Yeah, but that federal law would establish the standard against which execution of all warrants would be judged in the future, particularly in a civil suit alleging a civil rights violation.

Is the problem “no-knock”, or is it overriding fear and stupidity?

As for her being used as a poster child for racism, again, I doubt that is the reason. Seems to me cop just had a super-itchy trigger finger.

That would give Slow Joe the sads, Civil Forfeiture was the only thing he accomplished in the senate.

In my state, you would have every right to do so. The cops in my county know that if they go poking around a rural home at night unannounced, they are liable to be shot. They usually call first. Or, if at night, they will at least pull up in plain sight in the driveway with their lights on and engine running and honk once.

I agree, the pendulum has swung too far to police actions.

Why not do a top-to-bottom review of law enforcement strategy, and its leadership, given the ineffective job done by police leaders in our largest cities?

No one seems to be taking any responsibility for their actions anymore, it's mostly excuses and finger pointing.

The nonsense I've been hearing wouldn't have passed muster back when I was a platoon leader in Germany.
