hanks to a social media movement, there will be a lot of eyes upon the Texas football program in the coming days and weeks.
Earlier this month, Longhorns wide receiver Brennan Eagles kicked up quite the kerfuffle by proclaiming, amidst police brutality and racial injustice, Ill be [damned] if you think Ill play another snap with the platform I have that [affects the] majority of people that contribute to the sport who dont actually play. Friday, Texas student-athletes, including football players, took to social media en masse to spread their message: We aim to hold the athletic department and university to a higher standard by not only asking them to keep their promise of condemning racism on our campus, but to go beyond this by taking action to make Texas more comfortable and inclusive for the black athletes and the black community that has so fervently supported this program.
In that vein, the student-athletes are asking to have several issues addressed. Among them: renaming several buildings on campus, including James Hogg Auditorium; replacement of statues with more diverse statues on campus designed by artists/sculptors who are people of color; the UT Athletic Department donating .5% of its annual earnings to black organizations and the Black Lives Matter movement; and replacing The Eyes of Texas with a new song without racist undertones.
They have asked for a variety of changes including....One Million Dollars to be given to BLM out of football revenue.....renaming( or co- naming) the football stadium for a black player who passed away a number of years ago.....rename several buildings on campus as they do not approve of the current names. Drop the school song “ The eyes of Texas” due to the fact that it has ties to a stage show from 1900 that had an actor appear in blackface. The Athletes ( in the letter) stated that they will not assist in any recruiting events, will not recommend attending the University and will not attend any Alumni events unless their requests are met.
All in all, excellent news. Maybe this will be the beginning of much needed change for white men who spent their Fall Saturdays watching low IQ’ers run, catch and bounce balls. Then again, maybe we’re too far gone. Only time will tell.
BLM senses weakness and is stepping up the demands. Want a permanent income from UT. Huh?
The only thing the Negro has going for himself is athleticism. If the White man were ever to lose his interest in spectator sports, the Negro would be in trouble.
Bye,Brennan. Don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you.
Do these mental Giants think that Black lives matter and antifa punks are going to buy their outrageously priced tickets. I suggest those guys think that through although that might be above their pay grade.
Revoke their “scholar”ships.
Its not like they go to class anyway.
Austin homos.
Open air J S Bach concerts?
Me neither. There’s a lot of crap I don’t watch anymore. I’d rather be cleaning and loading my guns.
How can “I’ve been working on the railroad” song be racist?
Athletic programs are unnecessary in universities. It is time to shut them down.
We do not need the distractions, expense, and inconvenience of such programs that contribute little or nothing to academic education.
It is time for schools to return to be institutions of learning.
It valorizes working.
The Austin mayor may solve this issue for all concerned.
UT is one of the most messed up PC campuses in the country. Run by dumbAzz Marxist's. Never let your kid go there. ...they even have a safe place building where students go to suck their thumbs, roll around in blankets, hold puppies and drink coco.
The UT system is a massive institution. If they cave to these blm tyrant's demand. ..,, Texas will forever be changed for the worse.
An appropriate response from the school would be to cut the players, rescind their scholarships, and publicly state that attending the university is not an entitlement, nor is it open to everyone. You make a choice to attend the school and if you are unhappy with what you find you should attempt to make changes through normal dialog, not through attempts at public shaming and ultimatums. Last lesson for these players from the University: This is real life. If you do this at your employer you will be unemployed.
My bet, though, is that the university will bow to their demands.
Cleaning and loading guns is a good thing. 👍
Oh please ... please ... bring this nonsense to Texas.
St Louis University got shook down several years ago by black activists. The university completely caved. The demands involved thinks like hiring, courses offered, safe spaces, scholarships, naming, recruiting etc. Universities everywhere are going to be shook down over the next year.
