There are over 6000 Confederate soldiers buried in Chicago on federal land. There’s also a monument; I can’t understand what type of sick, evil mind would want to tear this down.
On the south side of Lake Erie, there is a small island, Johnson’s island. It was a prison camp for Confederate Officers Which is Located in the Sandusky Bay.. Lake Erie winters are brutal and most of the prisoners died of influenza pneumonia, malnourishment, starvation and abuse. After the war the soldiers Southern families wanted, at their expense, to have their bodies brought back to the south, they were never allowed to do that. The historical society has erected a memorial and done what they could to repair the remains of the gravestones and keep the area in good shape. I expect that will be stopped.
Chicago was the location of a Federal PoW camp for Confederate soldiers. Many died at that camp. Hence, the thousands of Confederate graves.
