Milley apologizes for taking part in Trump church walk: 'I should not have been there'

The nation's top military official has apologized for taking part in President Donald Trump's walk from the White House to St. John's Church for what eventually turned into a controversial photo op after authorities had used pepper balls and smoke canisters to disperse largely peaceful protesters.

"I should not have been there," said Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in a prerecorded video commencement address to National Defense University. "My presence in that moment and in that environment created a perception of the military involved in domestic politics."

"As a commissioned uniformed officer, it was a mistake that I have learned from," Milley said in the video address.

"His death amplified the pain, the frustration, and the fear that so many of our fellow Americans live with day in, day out," Milley said.

“The protests that have ensued not only speak to his killing, but also to the centuries of injustice toward African Americans," he added. "We should all be proud that the vast majority of protests have been peaceful."

Milley apologizes for taking part in Trump church walk: ‘I should not have been there’

He should have been on a Black Lives Matter march.

He reacted (then) with his heart...

...and he is acting and recanting now with his head.

Both are attributes of greatness and statesmanship.

AXIOS!

Given the dire state of the nation, with the dems promoting violence, race war and leftist groupthink, one would think government leaders would rally around the president rather than undermining him.

It didn’t look like politics to me; what looks like...and is...politics is this general shooting his mouth off about the President.

Milley really needs to be removed. I don’t know why Trump tolerates such imprudent and insolent behavior.

I do wonder if the General ever spoke to the President before he issued an apology...

Maybe the General should not have walked with President if he felt so uncomfortable...

I don’t think President would have ordered the General to walk with him against his will...

I am disappointed with the General...

Fire the General? I don’t know about that...Make him the “hero” who stood up to President?

After Milley is fired, President will have to name a replacement...He will have to be confirmed by Senate...
