NASCAR ratings get a boost after Confederate flag is banned from races

Based on the overnight TV ratings for Wednesday's Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway, NASCAR's decision to prohibit the display of the Confederate flag at its events and properties did not negatively impact viewership despite pushback from some of its fans. Quite the contrary.

Wednesday night's race at Martinsville, which started just a couple hours after NASCAR released a statement on its banishment of the flag, delivered massive numbers relative to comparable past Cup Series races.

The overnight ratings were up 104 percent "over the comparable race last season," per Fox Sports executive vice president Michael Mulvihill — a rating of 1.14 compared to 0.56 for the 11th race of the season last year, an event at Dover International Speedway presented on the same channel (FS1).

The ratings for Wednesday night's race at Martinsville also were up 16 percent over the last weeknight race on FS1, the rain-delayed event at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 28. The Wednesday night race at Darlington on May 20, the first mid-week Cup Series event since 1984, drew a rating of 1.22 on FS1.

Well this is certainly disappointing. Is it any wonder why it seems like the United States is dying on the vine. Even patriotic Americans must not care and only care about their personal entertainment.

Got a boost because it’s about the first pro sport to be televised in 3 months.

Well, there ya go. NASCAR fans are not a bunch of racists like The Fake News Media has been trying to portray them.

Just one question, though. There have been a few races before this one. What were the ratings like for those races?

Beat me to it. There’s nothing else to watch for a sports fan. The event did not get a “boost” because of the Confederate flag issue.

Well, the fact that there’s not any damn thing else, sports wise, to watch may have something to do with that.

“The overnight ratings were up 104 percent “over the comparable race last season,” per Fox Sports executive vice president Michael Mulvihill...”

The total number of people watching was still very low.

There’s nothing else to watch for a sports fan.

Sure there is, plenty of videos of old games on YouTube.

Bullsh*t. You’re telling me that a “fringe’ sport to leftards, “magically” gets a boost in ratings due to a very small screen percentage of confederate flags because after all these years, they are “offended” by confederate flags.

Just like the forums on 8Chan and 4Chan said this morning who were monitoring the leftard DU/DK sites, they collectively “crashed” watching the race to boost the ratings to imply that the problem were the “flags”..gimme a break.

The Black Lives Matter car should get a 10 lap head start, just to be fair.

If they got a boost, bless ‘em. We’ll see how that progresses. Remembering the first XFL. 13 million viewers the first Saturday night game. 3 million the second.

Two events uncorrelated.

People were not tuning out just because they saw the battle flag.

If they really think that lots of urban black people are gonna tune in now that Bubba ain’t showin’ his colors, that’s hilarious

I wouldn’t believe them if they delivered a list of names of every viewer which watched the race. Total BS. Any reporting like this is tainted.

What’s next? Probably spinning rims and tailpipe whistles on the race cars.
