Former coworker who said George Floyd and Derek Chauvin 'bumped heads' as security guards retracts story

A Minneapolis man is changing his story about the relationship between George Floyd and now-former police officer Derek Chauvin.

After telling CBS Evening News that the two men "bumped heads" while working together at Maya Santamaria's club as security guards, their former colleague David Pinney walked back his claim on Wednesday. Pinney said he had misidentified Floyd and that the man he believed was Floyd was actually a different black man who worked at the bar.

"There has been a mix up between George and another fellow co-worker," he wrote in an email sent to CBS News, a stunning reversal just a day after saying he knew Floyd "pretty well."

Unless the answer is he’s a complete idiot.

Whatever the motivation inside this guy's head - whether it was random police brutality, violent racism, some personal antagonism toward George Floyd in particular, or just pure incompetence - the one thing that seems indisputable is that he is a complete idiot.

How about this scenario:
1. “Witness” concocted story so he could sell it to the media. Was successful.
2. Prosecutors asked for a sworn statement and asked questions that flushed out that story was false.
3. “Witness” decides he must have been … mistaken.

One question that isn’t being asked is where did George get the phony cash? Who is higher up the chain of crooks?

one of those “all blacks look alike” stories.

I was kind of hoping the story was true, because it might give a better explanation for what Chauvin was doing. As it is, he looks like he just zoned out entirely during the arrest.

“Who knows? Frankly I don’t think that what happened was Chauvin settling a personal score. You’d have to be a complete idiot to do that in a public setting with witnesses and video cameras recording”

I saw it completely the opposite. A personal grievance seems much more likely to cause someone to kill somebody right out in the open, much more so than racial bias.

LOL.
On Tuesday this guy claimed George Floyd was his boss. Now says he was confused.
How does one misidentify one’s boss?
George Floyd was 6’5”.
But consider:
Floyd’s family was demanding, upgrade to Murder 1, premeditated.
If Floyd & Chauvin were indeed “bumping heads” then M1 indeed becomes a possibility, with a life— or death?— sentence.
Did Floyd’s family offer this guy money to say that?
Who made him retract it?

OTOH, a Murder1 charge based on a personal beef would invalidate the whole “racist-cop-murders-random-black-guy-for-being-black” trope.
So the family might lose credibility on the all-cops-are-racist claim.

"where did George get the phony cash? Who is higher up the chain of crooks?"

When I hear the word "counterfeiting", I usually think money laundering, organized crime, terrorism.

The media narrative is always the opposite of the truth when conservatives are involved. Regardless of what side the conservative is on. If the conservative is the victim...it was some random deal. If the conservative is the suspect...it was racism, or there was some racial or Trump caused bias.
