*** As several demonstrations continued to take place throughout the Bay Area on Tuesday, Muni announced it would no longer transport officers from the San Francisco Police Department to protests.
"We transport everyone at MTA and make sure our services are available for critical needs," SFMTA responded at the time. "From the COVID+ patients we transported to health care and rooms to SFPD officers, Muni is for everyone. To be clear, no Muni vehicles or employees will be used to transport any detainee."
On Tuesday, however, the transit agency said it was making efforts to advance its racial equity work and support communities of color.
"We want to be clear about the SFMTAs commitments going forward. We have an opportunity as agents of change," wrote SFMTA.
The organization said it will prioritize "agency-wide implicit bias training" in addition to building upon its equity strategy to improve service performance in San Francisco neighborhoods with high percentages of people of color in low-income households.
"The idea for the memorial was suggested by one of our transportation controllers in our Transportation Management Center," said Erica Kato, a spokesperson for Muni. "Weve been engaged in conversations with our staff, and that has given us the opportunity to reflect on what we can do to support our staff and black and brown community, and turn words into action."
This news comes after the transit agency was criticized on social media for videos uploaded by users showing officers in riot gear departing packed buses in downtown San Francisco earlier this month. Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez, a journalist for KQED, also shared a photo on Twitter of a digital display that read "Police Services" on the back of a bus.

Soon the unions will be fighting each other...cool
Any muni employee should be at the bottom of the response list.
In a rational world, MUNI would be defunded for this. And sued for various discriminatory offenses.
Of course, in a rational world, the cops wouldn’t be relying on a stupid mass transit system.
Take that a step further - any MUNI facility should be shunted to the bottom of the call list, any MUNI employee who refuses to transport officers on a public transit system should be arrested and jailed for obstruction and this should be repeated as much as necessary to the point of trains being left abandoned in stations if necessary.
Then see what happens.
If the SFPD had the guts.
Warning, militant Islamist groups setting the stage for infiltration and take over of towns and cities. Once entrenched removal will be difficult, violent and destructive.
Best for President Trump to get his legal team in order on how to swiftly federalize the national guard and position in place (if not already positioned).
Presently it would appear President Trump is following the situation so the timing is most effective. If the situation continues to develop along this path public opinion will overwhelmingly support bringing law and order back to the neighborhood.
Then officers should refuse to show up to any calls involving the MTA.
The lest is not one single monolith.
They are made up of separate competing special interest groups. Those interest often conflict.
What we are witnessing is one special interest group going to war with another.
Democrats are unable to pander to them all and so must choose.
They choose to support the BLM movement.
I think they have chosen poorly.
Yeah, they don’t. They likely mostly voted for just this, even if they didn’t know it at the time.
Nah. Let SF burn again.
They might want to start remembering why so many of the streets are named after the famous/infamous SF “Committee Of Vigilance.” And why, though the body became corrupt later, the Committee was both necessary and lauded at the time.
I need MORE popcorn!!!! Aren’t leftists a laugh riot?
There are several articles out there that the rich folks are moving out of Downton to the burbs and to Tahoe, I wonder if stuff like this will help.
Boston’s transit system, the MBTA,announced the very same thing yesterday.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what is MUNI?
The public transit authority in SF.
So, cops are banned from taking the bus?
They would be if they weren’t so willing to let you die/make you die for their political points.
Yup, because of various reasons, the only viable transport in some areas/at some times in SF is the train system.
Could the police seize the buses for transportation to fight rioters?
