There's a difference between a discriminatory deed and one that the state freely entered into accepting perpetual responsibility for a monument.

Reconciliation doesn't matter to them. Robert E. Lee commanded the Army of Northern Virginia. He was on the losing side but that's still THE TRUTH. Put up a statue depicting Virginia's history as a slave state on this monument avenue. Removing Lee is a coward's way. You're not confronting the history in the state, the reconciliation between the states, or the 130 year history since the statue was unveiled if you make it disappear like an inconvenience.
