those determined to deny and forget their history are destined to repeat it.
Te reason we have such monuments is to make sure the tragedy
remains in public, in the mind and to provoke discourse about the causes and mourn the consequences from one generation to the next.
Northam is an illiterate, foolish ape of a man-in his hubris and stupidity a danger to our children and grandchildren
Blackface Northam needs to come down.
Only if we outlaw the political party that gave us the civil war, slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, and welfare queens.
Good or bad, it’s part of our nation’s history and can’t just be erased.
Excellent points for us to discuss. But this means nothing to these radicals who desire to cleanse our history.
In their black/white views of history, Robert E. Lee fought to sustain slavery. Thus in their view, he was a worthless human being. The structure of society at the time means nothing to them. In their views, any caucasian historic figure who didn’t have a 21st century politically correct worldview is a worthless individual, best consigned to the scrap heap of history.
Let the hypocrite racist be hoisted on his own retard petard.
anyone know who donated the land and how big of a parcel?
100 statues of northam in blackface or kkk toga should be constantly driven around richmond on flatbeds as a reminder of how woke the governor is.
There will never be a statue of Ralph The Coonman Northam to take down.
Northam: We don't need no stinkin' badges. Or warrants.
family donated land
remove the statute then they should get the land back. i would like to know how big the parcel is
Real estate investor Otway S. Allen and his sisters, Bettie F. Allen Gregory and Martha Allen Wilson, donated the circle of land with a radius of 100 feet to the state for the statue, according to the March 17, 1890, deed in Henrico County, transcribed on the Library of Virginia website. Allen Avenue, the cross street to Monument at the circle, is named for the family.
The officers of the Lee Monument Association also signed the deed, donating the statue itself, which it had funded. P.W. McKinney, the then-governor, signed in acceptance on the part of the state. He also signed in donation as president of the association.
(Northram's counsel) "Davis said Northam's decision to move forward with the effort to remove the statue takes Virginia "a step closer to reclaiming the truth of Virginia's history" for all Virginians"
Reconciliation doesn't matter to them. Robert E. Lee commanded the Army of Northern Virginia. He was on the losing side but that's still THE TRUTH. Put up a statue depicting Virginia's history as a slave state on this monument avenue. Removing Lee is a coward's way. You're not confronting the history in the state, the reconciliation between the states, or the 130 year history since the statue was unveiled if you make it disappear like an inconvenience.
this one says 200 feet radius
If he attempts to remove it, he's in breech, and the property is no longer the state's. It immediately returns to the descendants of the family, who won't remove it.
So no, he's checkmated regarding removal.
The law means nothing to these people. Especially Gov blackface. They will just claim the original deed was ‘racist” and use that to justify ignoring it.
Wait till they find out what Lincoln thought about race.
If not, the heirs of the land that was deeded should reclaim tittle on failure to honor the covenant.
Fine.
The the family can put up a bigger, shinier statue of General Lee, perhaps holding a Confederate battle flag, with other bronze Confederates: Generals Jackson, Early, Pickett, Hood, and Longstreet.
Make sure it is heavily guarded by security.
Monuments to Washington and Jefferson will be next.
