Major union leaders in Los Angeles County Monday pledged their support to the Black Lives Matter agenda working toward defunding the Los Angeles Police Department and redirecting those funds to community organizations.
Leaders from United Teachers Los Angeles, Service Employees International Union and others came out to a peaceful protest in front of City Hall calling for an end to systemic racism.
Its really just bound to ideologies that all of America operates on, ideologies that have been inherited from generation after generation, ideologies that tell one group of people that they are more dominant and in a position of power over another group of people, one demonstrator said.
Along with an end to systemic racism, the demonstrators also called for the city to go even further to defund the LAPD.
We dont want $150 million taken out of the budget, or $100 million taken out of the budget, Melina Abdullah, co-founder of BLM-LA, said. We want the whole thing. We want to really radically reimagine what it means to have public safety and community safety.

Activists say reallocating money from police department budgets to social services is a great idea, but police officers said that even an 8% budget cut will mean major losses in coverage.
Youre going to end up delaying investigations of murders and rapes and assaults, your violent crimes, Robert Harris, of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, said. Youre going going to decimate our ability to crackdown on things like human trafficking, youre going to pull officers away from the homeless task force.
LAPPL is a union that represents more than 9,900 sworn LAPD officers.
BLM-LA leaders said they would not stop their peaceful protests until they see change happening.
“calling for an end to systemic racism”
Put the barrel in your mouth and pull the trigger.
Unions are the home of America-hating, anti-Capitalist thugs.
I know what you mean. :-)
... but our side needs to point this out. The taxpayers paid for police protection. If police protection goes away the associated tax revenues should go away as well.
Our side should use this as just another example where dems ignore who is paying for services and just assume they can divert money wherever they want.
It’s also called “change the narrative” and get on the offense. Our side needs to start pushing back equally hard in the opposite direction. Given the riots we need more police and less social services.
All the regular communist unions ... expected.
It will be interesting if Trump tells them there will be no bailout.
Tell the civil servants there is a simple choice: abolish the welfare state, or there will be no money for their pay and pensions.
“Oh no. If you defund the police then those funds go back to the taxpayers. You don’t get to steal them for something else.”
.
That’s the whole point. The police department is seen as where the money is. The other unions want the money and jobs to be diverted to them.
A similar thing happened in Oceanhill/Brownsville in NYC, in 1968. The black community board wanted all the teachers (Jewish) in their district to be fired and their jobs re-distributed to black residents. All the liberals and the NYTimes supported the community board. The teachers union went on strike. (They eventually won.)
Yep. We know all this. Our side is generally ignoring all this ruckus or they might say “no we shouldn’t abolish the police”.
But no one is pointing how absurd it is for dems in these cities to steal taxpayer money directed toward the police to be redirected into their slush fund.
The dems might try to say the redirection is what their voters want. Yeah right. I say the heck they do.
