IIRC he said he wrote the book to get people to experience nature.
I believe he was vastly confused about his motive for writing the book and the motive of the people reading the book.
I doubt anyone who read this book and looked for the treasure enjoyed the experience. Nature was in fact their obstacle if not their enemy.
I'll bet most people who went out to search never stopped to appreciate nature. Most likely cursed nature.
Likely “found” by his kids.
Yes please!
Most likely. Because they would associate nature, with their difficulty in the search and not finding the treasure.
Treasure chest contents: “IOU $3 million”
Looked at this once. On the surface, the clues seemed far too vague given the size of the area he had limited it to (forget the boundaries, but it was a huge area of land in the rock mountain region), but obviously there was something in there that led this person to find it. Very cool.
*rocky, not rock
Treasure found and finder chooses remain anonymous. Smells like a good way to end a hoax.

Thanks Ben Dover. Of course, some people won't get the memo and keep getting themselves killed looking for it. And great nick' btw.

He'd had at least one treasure seeker get within 50 yards of the location, but didn't spill the information at that time.
btw, if you’re at least my age, you probably remember this treasure hunt:

Did he say "50"? If so, that's intriguing because the spiritual information stream that runs parallel is that one can reach "49" by human effort, but only God can allow access to the 50, hence the 50th gate of understanding, or the counting of 49 days toward the Law which was given on the 50th (yet not counted) day.
A distance of 50 units (length, time) equates with "you have arrived", especially after many challenges, tests, and obstacles.
The topic is a big "National" treasure hunt, after all. This really IS big treasure.
What are the odds he tucked the world's smallest violin inside, because there's always that somebody who will keep whining that it wasn't fair. :)
Patiently Waiting,
Fascinating,
To
Say the least.
