WATCH: Emotional NBA Coach: ‘I’m Embarrassed As A White Person’

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, 71, says he’s “embarrassed as a white person” that a white man could allegedly murder a black man, referencing George Floyd, and suggesting such “lynchings” are commonplace in 2020 America.

“In a strange, counterintuitive sort of way, the best teaching moment of this recent tragedy, I think, was the look on the officer’s face,” Popovich said in a video posted by the Spurs, according to The Associated Press. “For white people to see how nonchalant, how casual, just how everyday-going-about-his job, so much so that he could just put his left hand in his pocket, wriggle his knee around a little bit to teach this person some sort of a lesson — and that it was his right and his duty to do it, in his mind.”

“I think I’m just embarrassed as a white person to know that that can happen,” he continued. “To actually watch a lynching. We’ve all seen books, and you look in the books and you see black people hanging off of trees. … But we just saw it again. I never thought I’d see that, with my own eyes, in real time.”

Floyd died last week after a police officer had his knee on the 46-year-old’s neck for over eight minutes during an arrest, as shown in viral video footage. That officer has been charged with second-degree murder.

“It’s like the neighborhood where you know there’s a dangerous corner, and you know that something’s going to happen someday, and nobody does anything,” Popovich said. “And then a young kid gets killed and a stop sign goes up. Well, without getting too political, we’ve got a lot of stop signs that need to go up — quickly — because our country is in trouble. And the basic reason is race.”

The NBA coach then told “white people” that it’s “on us” to call out “racism.”

“We have to do it,” he said. “Black people have been shouldering this burden for 400 years. “The only reason this nation has made the progress it has is because of the persistence, patience, and effort of black people. The history of our nation from the very beginning in many ways was a lie, and we continue to this day, mostly black and brown people, to try to make that lie a truth so that it is no longer a lie. And those rights and privileges are enjoyed by people of color, just like we enjoy them. So it’s got to be us, in my opinion, that speaks truth to power, and call it out, no matter what the consequences. We have to speak. We have to not let anything go.”

During the highly political video, Popovich ironically suggested he doesn’t want to “get too political” as he linked alleged unchecked systemic racism to the lack of anti-gun legislation.

I am embarrassed that a white man could say something so absurd.

Gregg Popovich blasts President Trump as ‘deranged idiot’ for failure to ‘unify’ country amid George Floyd protests

Popovich speaks out on protests, says Trump is a ‘destroyer’ and ‘divisive’ in interview with The Nation

SAN ANTONIO – Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich blasted President Donald Trump in a fiery new interview Monday where he spoke out for the first time since the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

In an interview with The Nation, Popovich told Dave Zirin that he believes the reason protests across the country have been so “explosive” is due to a lack of leadership.

“Without leadership and an understanding of what the problem is, there will never be change,” Popovich said.

The Spurs head coach went on to rip the president, calling Trump a “destroyer” and “divisive.”

“If Trump had a brain, even if it was 99 percent cynical, he would come out and say something to unify people. But he doesn’t care about bringing people together. Even now. That’s how deranged he is. It’s all about him. It’s all about what benefits him personally. It’s never about the greater good. And that’s all he’s ever been.”

Popovich did not hold back and referred to Trump as a “coward” and compared him to a grade-schooler who runs away from a situation.

“To be in his presence makes you die. He will eat you alive for his own purposes. I’m appalled that we have a leader who can’t say ‘black lives matter.’ That’s why he hides in the White House basement. He is a coward.”

Trump was not Popovich’s only target during the interview. Popovich also had some harsh words for U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican who serves as Senate Majority Leader, saying McConnell is the person who “really runs the country.”

“McConnell has destroyed and degraded our judicial system. He has tried to destroy heath care. He’s destroyed the environment,” said Popovich. “He’s the master and Trump’s the stooge, and what’s funny is that Trump doesn’t even know it.”

“It’s more than just Trump. The system has to change,” Popovich said. “I’ll do whatever I can do to help, because that’s what leaders do.”

I too as a white male am highly embarrassed by this man. The NBA should fire him. If not I will boycott their games this year, next until he is gone.

Popovich’s $11 million annual salary makes him the highest-paid coach in the league.

This guy has been a flaming leftist and all-around Cuck forever, but I wonder how much of this bleating comes from the fact that the NBA players are nearly all black and he’s just playing to his audience, maybe not for him but other coaches who are under siege.

Sheesh, this guy must have done some awful things to black people or thought awful things about them to feel this guilty.

Is he embarrassed to not know a black cop and an Asian cop assisted in the arrest?

I'm personally fine saying that at this point in time. It is no endorsement of the radical cop-hating group by the same name to utter that phrase. What I won't abide is the notion that ONLY Black Lives Matter. Maybe that's the impression that Trump was trying to avoid giving.

Popovich can pop off to whatever weird planet he came from.
