If you can get her to read “The Road to Serfdom” by F.A. Hayek, you will do her a huge favor. Among other things, she needs to learn what conservative, liberal, and socialist really mean, or at least meant before the names were warped. Most Freepers and even people like Rush Limbaugh are classical liberals (individualism and personal responsibility with free markets, freedom of thought, and the rule of law), but would tell you they are conservatives. But the liberal brand was destroyed by Progressives (socialists) and actual conservatives (backwards-looking patriarchy based on class privilege and landed wealth). Almost all the American politicians, academics, and journalists today are socialists. Your daughter is being propagandized but likely lacks an understanding of the alternatives to the disguised communist claptrap she is surrounded with. She has to figure it out for herself.

I wouldn’t argue that most of the Ruling Class has not betrayed our country — it has and it will. It’s just that she is probably being sold an inverted fairy tale about the manner.

Wishing you the Best of Luck.

3 can be interesting. I doubt there’s a place that compiles it, but you can make some pretty good suppositions.

Look at their bio, you know, the one where they were born in a log cabin they build themselves.

Look at what they did for a living before they were elected and then check their public financial statements. Some are married into money so that’s hard, or they came from money.

Others, like Harry Reid is easy. He was a Capitol Police officer while in school, perhaps his only real job and then immediately went to work for the Nevada Government. His net worth is about $10,000,000.

Joe Biden practiced law for about three years before entering the US Senate. Net worth Appx $10,000,000

Barack Obama was a community organizer before joining the Illinois senate. Community Organizer average pay is $13,000 a year. Obama is worth officially $40,000,000

I’d go to google scholar if I were you as well as look for federal databases on crime statistics. What you are probably going to want to do is to get an overall handle on crime statistics as well as particulars on the unarmed people killed by police. In a country of 330 million people it’s not hard to come up with cherry picked data.

There’s no redeeming #3, it is what it is and we need reform in the worst way.

It’s easy to complain if your solutions have never been proven wrong because they are untested in the real world. That said, bear in mind that your reality since the 80’s has been globalism, and from the Silk Road (which have us 300 years of the Black Death which depopulated large swathes of Europe), to the British empire which gave us the Irish potato famine, globalism needs to be managed, and it hasn’t been.

I’ve found it takes about 10 years for the brainwashing to wear off - the realities of life usually take care of it- until then, there will be a disconnect between what she learned at her lefty indoctrination center and cold, hard reality.

Meanwhile, I’d not discuss politics at home and refuse to engage.

Let her pay her own way in life, take care of herself and find out for herself what life is like outside the ‘safe space’ of college.

This is what we did with our lefty daughter who graduated from a known lefty institute.

I hope you didn’t spend a Nickle of your hard earned money to send her off to be brainwashed. Too many parents save their whole lives to send their kids to college and then when they come home they hate the very system that gave them the education you paid for.

I let my kids live with me while they went to school. That’s it. If they wanted to go to some faraway university, then they were on their own. If they wanted a better life for themselves then they had to earn it.

These days a liberal arts degree is a ticket to poverty. The weirder the degree the more chance you will end up working at Starbucks until you give up and kill yourself.

A few weeks after the Freddie Gray riots in Baltimore, a Baltimore County cop was forced to kill an unarmed black youth. They immediately released security cam footage clearly showing the unarmed youth threatening the cop by putting his hand behind his back and implying that he was armed. THe kid actually had the nerve to pull his hand out to “scare” the cop.

Thus ended any question over whether it was legit or not.

Show her the video

Tell your daughter that most criminals rarely do the time for the actual crime they committed because of plea deals. If the government was trying to railroad criminals, they wouldn’t be offered a sweetheart deal for less time, and they always have the option to turn it down. Most perps have had run-ins with the cops early on in their life, and have records an arms length. Plenty of repeat offenders. Just look at George Forman’s rap sheet. His was mild compared to others. If they don’t want to go to jail or prison, then they shouldn’t commit crimes. And if prison was so bad, why do they keep coming back for more? Most of them have more comforts in prison than they did in the street.

1,100 a year? Unarmed does not mean not dangerous. Suppose they go for a cop’s gun? Try to bounce his head off the pavement? Works out to about 3 a day in a nation of about 315 million. Even if it were true, I wouldn’t call it extreme. I know a little bitty girl that brags it took three cops to take her down. Yeah...because they were trying NOT to hurt you. Around here, 4-6 cops on a call isn’t uncommon. Many places, it’s one on one, or maybe one on more than one.

Understand also that if you are a populist, you don’t have to defend globalist policies that have ruined manufacturing and has incentivized kicking large numbers of Americans out of the economy, like the former inmates who your daughter says end up in prison because of lobbyists (who have offshored too many jobs).

Numbers 2 & 4 are strawman arguments. The majority of those who go back to prison are career criminals who commit new crimes. But we do incarcerate too many citizens for petty types of crimes. Ask her to point to a better criminal justice system that exists in the world. While there are problems with our system, it is a system that changes, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse. Trump is helping to make it better, not worse, and he is the 1st president to do so.

Lobbyists do a lot of harm to this country. They advocate for what lines their pockets, and they are successful because they line the pockets of politicians. As a result of the corruption, in both parties, neither party will outlaw lobbing.

So you can be on her side, somewhat, on these issues and educate her as to what happens in a lot of the rest of the world, and that no system is perfect. Nor is any system impervious to corruption. You have to expose the corruption and right it. But you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

You have been offered a good deal of valuable information.
Heather MacDonald writes at City Journal and has authored two books you might find helpful: Are Cops Racist? And The War on Cops. She is also a frequent Tucker Carlson guest.

De-fund her indoctrination. Let her pay for college, maybe she will start to appreciate the fruits of Capitalism. Maybe not. Anyway she will appreciate self-sufficiency. You owe her NOTHING!

#4, take a field trip with your daughter to any local criminal court and spend the day there listening to cases.

Regarding #4, there is a lot urban municipalities that make a lot of money off traffic tickets and subsequent court costs. This was one of the things the feds looked after Ferguson. While some of this has been changed, it probably still happens, and it creates a cycle of indebtedness that is hard to recover from.

While the practice seems to be predatory and has more serious consequences for people in poverty, there is a very obvious way to avoid it. Pay your bills and try to steer clear of the police. These towns are almost always well known to the local residents.

Of course, this also brings up several side issues primarily economic. The sad truth is that poor people are targets to unscrupulous lenders and many municipalities. The ultimate answer is to gain financial independence. It's the liberals who have enacted policies to keep people in financial straits because they promise programs that give the temporary relief. And that perpetuates the cycle of poverty.
