(Reuters) - George Floyd, whose fatal encounter with Minneapolis police stirred a global outcry over racial bias by U.S. law enforcement, tested positive for the coronavirus, his autopsy showed, but the infection was not listed as a factor in his death.
The official cause of death, according to the full 20-page report made public on Wednesday by the Hennepin County Medical Examiners Office, was cardiopulmonary arrest while Floyd was being restrained by police taking him into custody on May 25.
The coroner ruled the manner of death to be a homicide.
The autopsy, in listing cardiopulmonary arrest as the cause of Floyds death, also cited complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint and neck compression.
The report listed several additional factors as significant conditions contributing to Floyds death, including heart disease, high blood pressure and intoxication from the powerful opioid fentanyl, as well as recent methamphetamine use.
The report further noted that a nasal swab sample collected from Floyds body came back positive for COVID-19, and that Floyd had also tested positive on April 3, nearly eight weeks before his death.
The countys chief medical examiner, Dr. Andrew Baker, concluded that the post mortem test result most likely reflects asymptomatic but persistent ... positivity from previous infection. There was no indication in the autopsy report that coronavirus played any role in Floyds death.
Dr. Michael Baden, one of two medical examiners who conducted a private autopsy for Floyds family, told the New York Times that county officials never told him, or the funeral director, that Floyd had tested positive for COVID-19.

How many
btw, you hadnt treated that man a few weeks ago.and you just claimed your facility was inundated
oh man..trying to do too many things at once..that post is not even close to what i was trying to say...got to go back to the stock market and baby sit Amazon
You really don’t like being confronted with the facts that expose you. I really dont care that you get information from a physician who makes money from a you tube channel. But for you to indicate he is a highly powered academic physician is crap. I am sorry the facts demonstrate this
I have every belief that he is probably a good doc. But your endorsement of him probably diminished his credibility
As for your other stupid questions I guess you are narrow minded and like to play the gotcha question. Its a bullish*t question. I am fully aware of what causes AMI and the complexities at play with pathophysiology.
I am further aware of the finding that would be present on autopsy had Mr. Floyd had a massive heart attack. It would be pretty glaring and being trumpeted across the media. It is not because it was not found.
So please, continue to rage making questions that make no sense to your case but feel free to continue to believe that you are somehow erudite.
Go on — you are in a vote that you cannot help yourself but to prove you are completely wrong.
Facts shine the light on ignorance, and in this case, yours.
You are quite nicely twisting words that I never said. You are unhinged. It is not mutually exclusive that my facility was not inundated and yet I treated many patients. Do you have any concept of logic. Or argument. Keep going, destroy what little credibility you have left.
Your post #63 is quite bizarre. Cant multitask?
Why are you attacking RummyChick?
From the article at the top
“George Floyd, whose fatal encounter with Minneapolis police stirred a global outcry over racial bias by U.S. law enforcement, tested positive for the coronavirus, his autopsy showed, but the infection was not listed as a factor in his death.”
But dont let the facts get in your way.
“tested positive for the coronavirus”
Give it a couple weeks and we’ll never hear of George Floyd again. Except during the trials.
Rummychick is advocating that CoVId could have caused the breathing problems (it did not). She then pivoted to the question as to why didn’t he have problems (because 99% of people dont have problems) and advanced that maybe it was cocaine or nicotine (preposterous!) and finally admitted all these things were facts not in evidence
Her fundamental premise is that all people with CoVID will have awful lung disease that is likely long term (most resolve in days to weeks with no sequelae) and twists the truth to advance her well known Fearper agenda, all with no basis in science, facts, or experience.
I believe is correcting things that a wrong. Note, she never responds to the factual statements, but rather pivots to something else.
I am not attacking her, I am attacking her completely incorrect premises and then answering whatever arguments she proffers.
The cop should NOT be convicted. REASONABLE DOUBT.
There is TONS of doubt as to what caused Floyd’s death. I doubt the cop caused it at all. If I were on the jury I would vote to acquit and hang the jury if need be.
George Floyd is the first person in Minnesota who died with the coronavirus but was NOT classified as a COVID-19 fatality.
Re: “He was fully recovered.”
They swabbed him again on 25 May.
He was positive on 25 May.
Yes, the PCR shows dead viral particles. There was no active disease — read the reports. Fully recovered and the reports say there was likely not cleared but deactivated viral particles.
Then there is no hope for our republic. I guess all are not equal under the law if you are a cop
How many people did Floyd infect after the 03 April COVID test?
How many of those infected people died?
Where were the Minnesota COVID contact tracers?
The first medical examiner said he also had meth in his system.
If his heart was a race car it would be like one foot on the gas to the floor and the other foot on the brake.
I love how all of these other factors are at the bottom of the article; but, the "virus" is in the headline. I have posted this before; but, I will repeat it: This guy looks like he was a coronary waiting to happen.
Probably, but the in the end the other conditions are not what killed him. If there is no knee on his back/throat, for almost 9 minutes and he does not die that day.
If someone has terminal brain cancer and only a week to live, and I shoot them in the back of the head, they did not die of the terminal brain cancer...
“Yes, the PCR shows dead viral particles. There was no active disease read the reports. Fully recovered and the reports say there was likely not cleared but deactivated viral particles.”
OK - I read the autopsy report.
Autopsy Report:
“Since PCR positivity for 2019-nCoV RNA can persist for weeks after the onset and resolution of clinical disease, the autopsy result most likely reflects asymptomatic but persistent PCR positivity from previous infection.”
Just so I understand:
You are saying that seven weeks after the first test, asymptomatic means - “dead viral particles” - “There was no active disease” - and, “Fully recovered.”
Is that correct?
Thanks.
Malpractice. You really dont know anything do you?
