Los Angeles to slash up to $150M from LAPD budget, reinvest into communities of color

LOS ANGELES— Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Wednesday that he tasked the city to “identify $250 million in cuts” to invest more money into the black community, communities of color, women and “people who have been left behind."

The Los Angeles Times reported that the city will try and cut between $100 million to $150 million from its police budget alone. Garcetti said it is incumbent on the city to “step up and say, ‘What can we sacrifice?’”

The mayor said that the city will not increase its police budget of $1.8 billion. Deadline reported that Garcetti said that he will offer more specifics at a later press conference but said the money will be distributed “now, not years from now.”

The only ones who are left behind are the ones who live in an alternate reality believing they have been left behind because the media, and DNC keep repeating the lie to them every day! In the mean time this thumb-sucking mayor sacrificed the business owners and its law abiding citizens to a bunch of rioting children that refuse to take personal responsibility expecting others else to pick up after them and hand to them what they want. If these whining blacks want something to believe in then they should go no further than to look in the mirror. You don't put your life/trust in the hands of others to do what you ultimately must do for yourself! It's your choice, your own willingness to change your life and pursue your own happiness and interests instead of blaming others, for your lack of effort, laziness and failures.

I cringe when I see the word "invest" used like it is here. A year after this money is "invested" you not notice any difference. Just that the money is gone. I remember years ago a judge in Kansas City, MO, ordered the city and state to "invest" $2B over 12 years into KC school. Here is a summary of the results. For more than a decade, the Kansas City district got more money per pupil than any other of the 280 major school districts in the country. Yet in spite of having perhaps the finest facilities of any school district its size in the country, nothing changed. Test scores stayed put, the three‐​grade‐​level achievement gap between blacks and whites did not change, and the dropout rate went up, not down.

The $250 million that has been budgeted for specific item has to be accounted for.

However, if you re-direct that money to something nebulous like “community of color”, a lot of that money will disappear and never be accounted for.
