In The Swamp, all the Swamp Creatures talk an awesome game. Your real doers are more humble and low-key, generally, so are easily overlooked on the first pass of appointees.

I don't think President Trump had any idea about how deep the corruption was in DC. That's why they're desperate to get him out now. He won't play ball with them.

Do you think there is much to choose from in DC?

Honestly...in a war, the generals and admirals who are successful are the ones who relieve non-performers when it is called for instead of hanging on to them.

Same in the civilian world. I went to a seminar some years ago where they asked a crowd of several thousand people “Who of you have people working for you that you would fire immediately if you could.

It was a sea of hands. Nearly everyone. And you can bet a lot of those people hired those same people. The person talked about how to get rid of non-performers.

There is no doubt President Trump has both made bad choices and has had bad advice. I admire someone who sucks it up and does what needs doing, even if others think it is wrong.

Agreed. If I had to fault President Trump on one SINGLE issue, it would be that he is too trusting and does not vet his employees. For starters, EVERYONE in the West Wing should have been vetted the day he put his hand on the Bible.

Trump has not learned that business is different from politics. In business, there is honor among thieves... in politics it’s lying, back-stabbing, and subversion.

He has a limited pool of confirmable cenaidates to draw from. Some of the stinkers, like Sessions, surprised most of us. Also, so of the guys who are sound in business are not in government, like that Exxon guy.

Why did Trump hire him?

That is the basis of life and of Trump's hit show the "Apprentice"

As the boss, you put people into positions to see if that can GET the JOB DONE!

Those that DON'T hear those magic words "You're Fired!"

To destroy the aspirations of ISIS.

They wanted to re-establish the Levant. They were unsuccessful.

Once the mission was over, Mad Dog's neo-con leanings became a liability. Bye-bye Mad Dog.

He took who he could get.
He came in without his own team of insiders, as he came from the outside.
In many ways he was unprepared for the institutional warfare it turned out that he was required to wage in order to implement what amounted to an overturn of established policy.

He depended on the Republican establishment to arrange most appointments, and these were their men. The wrong men, in so many cases. He is still almost entirely dependent on that establishment for most things, including judicial appointments.

The transition team wields a lot of influence in an incoming administration. Trump couldn’t possibly know everything about these people. He’d almost have to be God. However, it didn’t take long for Pres. Trump to realize he’d made a mistake.

Why did Trump hire him?

Not a lot of talent around after 8 years of Clinton, 8 of W. and 8 from Obama, mostly all deep state losers.
