I think Mattis was a great commander and Commandant of Marines.
But when his job had more political responsibilities, he clearly got in over his head.
If he now sticks his head up to engage in political sniping at Trump, turnabout is fair play.

I think Mattis was a great commander and Commandant of Marines. Is there objective evidence to support this? Aside from Mattis?

I don’t accept that he was a great commander at all. In fact, I’d suggest that one big reason the U.S. hasn’t won a war in decades is that he is typical of the faggotry that dominates the military leadership of this nation.

Mattis was never the Commandant. Mattis had a chance to be trans-formative he was petulant over Trump wanting out of Syria and Afghanistan. But he really did not agree with using troops on US border. Not his call so he resigned, took his stars and went home. He was very insubordinate to Obama and Trump, something he did not tolerate from his juniors. Marines loved him, but he needs to fade away his time has come and gone.

But when his job had more political responsibilities, he clearly got in over his head. Officer ranks in general are pretty political, although Obama put that into overdrive. I honestly see this as becoming a very real problem down the road. Not that it isn't enough of a problem now.
