James Mattis, the esteemed Marine general who resigned as secretary of defense in December 2018 to protest Donald Trump’s Syria policy, has, ever since, kept studiously silent about Trump’s performance as president. But he has now broken his silence, writing an extraordinary broadside in which he denounces the president for dividing the nation, and accuses him of ordering the U.S. military to violate the constitutional rights of American citizens.
“I have watched this week’s unfolding events, angry and appalled,” Mattis writes. “The words ‘Equal Justice Under Law’ are carved in the pediment of the United States Supreme Court. This is precisely what protesters are rightly demanding. It is a wholesome and unifying demand—one that all of us should be able to get behind. We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers. The protests are defined by tens of thousands of people of conscience who are insisting that we live up to our values—our values as people and our values as a nation.” He goes on, “We must reject and hold accountable those in office who would make a mockery of our Constitution.”

If I am not mistaken, he, as a retired military man, is still subject to the UCMJ. If someone wants to push it, he is not allowed to show open, public contempt for the president. No one will push it, but they could.
Like a true Swamp Creature, he feels he is due from the citizenry and long forgotten his oath.

So says the overrated Jim Mattis who infamously refused to dispatch helicopters to recover wounded Special Operations soldiers who had been accidentally bombed in a B52 strike. As a consequence a number of the wounded, who could have been saved, died unnecessarily.
When a Marine is “esteemed” by The Atlantic you know there’s a problem.

Mattis MAY have been a good general, that is open to question, but he is a lousy democrat politician. I would not follow him to a good time.

I haven’t heard a single person say that what happened to George Floyd was acceptable on any level. But anyone who cannot draw a distinction between peaceful protest and criminal behavior doesn’t deserve a platform to spew forth rhetoric that only serves to further divide our nation.

I think something big is brewing: a coupist op at DOD. You have Mattis and Esper both publicly undermining POTUS today. Highly likely JCS threatening to refuse to follow orders from CIC regarding domestic use of the military.
Mattis forgets that Trump was his superior, and Trump’s orders are not mere suggestions.

None of this crap is spontaneous. This “Cronkite Moment” was probably planned down to the damn minute to cause maximum damage.
