The ACLU and its Texas chapter have withdrawn their lawsuit against seven Texas towns that had declared themselves sanctuaries for the unborn and adopted ordinances outlawing abortion within their city limits.
In February, the ACLU filed suit in East Texas against the cities of Waskom, Naples, Joaquin, Tenaha, Rusk, Gary, and Wells on behalf of two pro-abortion plaintiffs: the Texas Equal Access Fund and the Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity.
Now, three months later, the groups are dropping their suit, and pro-life groups across Texas are claiming it as a victory for the unborn.
In a post on their website, the states oldest and largest pro-life group, Texas Right to Life, said, Even the ACLU realized their complaint would not hold up in court. Ironically, their failed attempt to intimidate city councils will embolden more towns to become Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn with more confidence than ever.
In Joaquin, the fourth city to outlaw abortion in the nation and the third city named in the lawsuit, Councilman Mike Cummings told Right to Life East Texas that he was proud of his towns victory over the ACLU.
Im proud to live in a town that will not back down from the bullies known as the ACLU. We heard the barks from their chihuahuas, we swam with the ACLU sharks, and Im happy to announce that the abortion ban lawsuit Joaquin was named as a defendant in has been dropped. One small step for man, one giant leap for the unborn in our area! Its our goal to make abortion illegal, if we have to do it one Texas town at a time. All the online ridiculing, private messages, threats received, make it all worth it. Remember those who warned the wrath from the ACLU when they filed suit? They are but a memory! I challenge towns all over Texas to join hands with us and make a stand and fight for those who cant fight for themselves! When God is for us, who can be against us? To God be the glory!
Texas Right to Life says more Texas towns should be emboldened by this victory and look to pass more sanctuary city ordinances for the unborn:
Texas Right to Life celebrates the failure of this attempt to quash local Pro-Life victories. As expected, these strong and enforceable ordinances have successfully withstood legal attacks. Pro-Life Texans can and should pursue the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance quickly and more confidently than ever. Citizens who want to make their town a Sanctuary City for the Unborn should visit TexasRightToLife.com for assistance.
An oasis of good news in troubled times.
The ACLU likes to settle with at least lawyers fees.
Looks like they cut their losses.
There were several other towns that did it as well. I guess these are just the ones in the lawsuit.
Thank you Texas!!!
Deo gratias!
A nation that kills its own children is a nation without hope.
