Tensions are rising along the China-India border. Here's what you need to know

NEW DELHI—Tensions along the China-India border high in the Himalayas have flared again in recent weeks.

Indian officials say the latest row began in early May, when Chinese soldiers entered the Indian-controlled territory of Ladakh at three different points, erecting tents and guard posts. They said the Chinese soldiers ignored repeated verbal warnings to depart, triggering shouting matches, stone-throwing and fistfights. China has sought to downplay the confrontation while providing little information.

A look at the history and current relations between the two countries and how events may develop:

BRAWLING TROOPS

Over recent weeks, thousands of soldiers from the two countries have been facing off just a few hundred metres from each other in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. China has objected to India building a road through the valley connecting the region to an airstrip, possibly sparking its move to assert control over territory along the border that is not clearly defined in places.

Analyst Chris Biggers said that a Chinese airport nearby has steadily expanded its military use over the past year with the deployment of a surface-to-air missile battery and four fighter jets. He said recent satellite imagery of Ngari Günsa shows workers constructing a taxiway, parking ramps and “quick reaction alert aprons” but falling short of adding a second runway.

While a brawl between Chinese and Indian troops has been captured on video, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said Wednesday that the border situation was “generally stable and controllable.”

The sides were communicating through both their front-line military units and their respective embassies to “properly resolve relevant issues through dialogue and consultation,” Zhao said at a daily ministry news briefing in Beijing.

India and China engaged in a similar standoff for 73 days at Doklam, at the other end of their disputed border, in 2017,

The question now is how many troops the PLA have moved into Tibet for this confrontation? The Indian Army has a huge number of troops in Kashmir and other border areas with Tibet and Indian Army has a large number of sophisticated Brahmos missile systems sitting on the border, many of which are armed with nuclear warheads.

I think President Trump might ask the Pentagon to help the Indians deploy “ideas” that would make any number of Chinese incursions much, much harder. I imagine that Israel would also be more than willing to help with technology and ideas.

“Here’s what you need to know”

Question: How the hell do they know, what I need to know? For example, if I had family in that part of India, I might need to know something different than, say, a rioter in Detroit.

Yep. These thing happen and Mr Xi has nothing to do with them - totally innocent, much maligned, scape-goated. Xi has absolutely nothing to gain by seeing the US and DJT weaken and distracted, souls od innocence he is; the CCP is benign and wants to remain distant, focused on internat disputes like feeding the hungry starving peasants and such like.

Like you said: Total coincidence. Just keep pointing at Soros, who is using his personal fortune to run these ops and would never take a penny from the totally innocent Mr. Xi !

It’ll be interesting to see what current commercial satellite images can see, since they can easily resolve down to just under 100 cm resolution.

This was sarcasm as it is more than likely that Soros uses someone else’s money not his personal fortune; whose money? Soros is just a cut out for Mr. Xi Jinping - who has the motive, means, money, desire, and organizational structure (PLA) to see the US in chaos right now.

But you just keep watching and pointing at Soros ... Mr Xi would like that

Are you saying we should just ignore Soros? That is sticking your head in the sand.

````
No. But he’s not the source, he’s just set up to take the fall. Looking at him tends to ignore those with the most to gain like Xi. in fact, it looks like I’m the only one pointing this out or at least in the decidedly small minority.
