Bill Whittle mentioned this video in one of his streaming sessions while discussing the recent successful SpaceX mission.
This video was released by SpaceX, and shows the failures they had leading up to their first successful booster recovery
They set the sequence of videos to John Philip Sousa's "The Liberty Bell"...a masterful choice and implantation here, but known to many people as the theme song for "Monty Python's Flying Circus"...:)
You can watch the entire thing at the link above, but if you want to see what I consider the finest synching of a teeth rattling explosion to the music of John Philip Sousa, THIS LINK will take you right to it!
I liked it. The company wasn't afraid to poke at itself, and as Bill Whittle said, they think and change and try not to be hidebound and learn from mistakes.
I admit, I took a while to accept SpaceX AND the missions. I always accepted and rooted for the missions. But I was lukewarm towards the company. I can't help it there, I am getting older and more ossified, and I am a traditionalist in many things. I grew up on NASA, and they generally didn't refer to the Astronauts on air and in broadcast as "Frank and Jim" it was Borman and Schirra or Col. Borman and CDR. Lovell.
Things like that. Cigarette smoking in the Control Room. White shirts, striped ties. It took me a while to get used to the whooping and hollering. Not because it was bad, it was my own sense of propriety...almost as if my brain would be saying "Hey! We're workin' here!"
Something about seeing this video kind of got me over all that...:)
SpaceSex...Huh?
This is what scares me about youtube/google. I just saw this post and then went to youtube and the same video popped up in my recommendations.
Back in the early days of NASA, many of their rockets exploded on the pad or shortly after launch. It takes practice.
I have said it before, but I am not a big Elon fan. In this situation (successful launch) I applaud Space X and his involvement. Well done.
LOL, I know. To me, there is something odd about him...something creepy...I can’t put my finger on it. I guess he reminds me of a Bond Villain or something...:)
I wonder if it is some kind of cross-site cookie tracking.
I have always set mine up to block cross-site cookies, which causes Google searches to flag me with the Captcha program.
I grit my teeth and flip them the double bird each and every time I have to do it, which is several times a day.
LOL, I didn’t get your post, then all of a sudden “Oh crap, did I misspell it somewhere????
Damn spell check!
That was kind of what I appreciated, because they were testing a lot of their stuff to destruction. And it appears they looked at each of those failures and accepted it fully as an opportunity.
As Bill Whittle said in his commentary, that is the sign of a healthy corporate culture.
They know what your thinking, before you even think it. Surrender!
That was really very funny!
Glad they have a sense of humor in their organization!
I admit I really enjoy Sousa music too...so it really connected for me!
:)
Between the music, pictures and the captions, it was great!
This is a benefit of Red States. At least those Red States where people in the elected offices are sane.
Posted a ping on another thread to you, in error.
LOL
My state fails on both accounts...:(
Neil Armstrong had about 11 seconds of fuel left before he finally found a safe spot to land and slewed the LEM toward it. Still gives me the chills how close it he cut it.
That was a great game!
Ping for later
