I know this sounds crazy, but Donald Trump will not be president forever. In fact, he hasnt been president that long . . . meaning, it was not so long ago that we were dealing with an Obama administration and its media-Democrat pom-pom squads that regarded limited-government conservatives, Second Amendment proponents, and many veterans returning from overseas military service as right-wing extremists who posed a threat of domestic terrorism. Someday, maybe sooner than wed like to think, Democrats are going to be in power again. Do we really want to give them enhanced federal powers to harass ideological opponents under the guise of designating domestic terrorist threats?
Right this minute, in terms of confronting Antifa or any other domestic terrorist organization, we have a more robust array of state and federal law-enforcement powers than we have ever had. Moreover, coordination between federal and state law-enforcement and national-security officers is as good as it has ever been. All that is required to gut Antifa is the will to do it the will to say, Regardless of our disparate political views, we Americans draw the line at violent extortion that eviscerates our right to speak, assemble, and engage in constitutionally protected political activity.
Id humbly suggest we work on that, rather than wasting our energy on meaningless and potentially counterproductive theater like designating domestic terrorist organizations.

They are already targeting us. They will not stop no matter what Trump does or doesn’t do. It’s only the communists that are never targeted.
I don’t think our major concern should be what future dem presidents might do. If we don’t do something now, it all may be a moot point.
POTUS
Sooo, Andy.
A bit frightened that your financial support of Antifa might be made public or something?
The Democrats don’t need precedent, they will just do it because no one has successfully forced them to stop anything else they do.
Labelling National Review a conservative magazine is a bad idea.
Calling antifa by any other name doesn’t make that group less terrorist...........
I think so.
I have a feeling this country is going to be at war with itself long before November.
OK...you made me spill my beer all over my keyboard. LOL..
If Trump follows through, when the Dems get back in control they might use the government against our ideological groups, like using the IRS against them, or maybe even spy on them. Who knows maybe they will try to take down a president using these means.
“Do you swear to uphold the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic”
Antifa (and everyone else on the left) is the domestic enemy.
Go time getting closer every day.
Therein lies the rub. Leftists simply do not want to draw the line at violent extortion that eviscerates our right to speak, assemble, and engage in constitutionally protected political activity.
The Democrats have been doing that already, using The Patriot Act and the FISA Courts.
Not going after ANTIFA is not going to make the Democrats stop abusing the law.
On the other hand, if we don't destroy ANTIFA, the November elections could descend into an ANTIFA organized riots mayhem and utter chaos.
Destroy ANTIFA NOW!
I agree. The war has started, the question is...who is the real enemy?
EXACTLY.
He's almost always wrong initially - sometimes he comes around, but his instincts are 100% GOPe.
So people who think like this is supposed to rule the day. We are just supposed to capitulate because of what might happen years down the road. To hell with that kind of thinking.
They already have, Andrew. The IRS going after the Tea Party for one.
Someone should tell Mr. McCarthy that it will be easier to root out the foreign funding that supports the anti-America rent-a-mobs, if FEDERAL crimes are committed.
If he is in doubt about this, he should ask Elliot Ness.
When is voicing the truth a bad idea?
