So infuriating, which I saw with my own eyes in this mid sized city, when Obama made the police give up their military style vehicles.
The leftists knew there was a physical war coming. They knew they would not be able to defeat the armored vehicles. So Obama took them away.
Someone here told me some were allowed back.
Probably no funds left to buy them back, though. Now imagine the budget of all day and all night full police in all these cities. Expensive!!
The ex-military armored vehicles were usually given, or loaned, to local governments by the federal government. Or sold for a nominal fee.
“Buying” them was not an issue, mostly given away as grants on long term lease*.
However, maintenance is required as part of the deal and it’s not cheap.
So some cities keep them running, some do not.
Those that fail to keep them in good condition may lose them.
*Technically the military retains ownership.
Otherwise the cities would sell the vehicles, kind of like welfare queens selling their food stamps.
