White House hits back after Twitter cracks down on Trump's Minneapolis tweet, reposts censored message

The White House on Friday pushed back against Twitter after the social media giant censored a tweet by President Trump threatening action against rioters in Minneapolis -- with Trump accusing the company of double standards, as his team moved to get around Twitter's restrictions.

“Twitter is doing nothing about all of the lies & propaganda being put out by China or the Radical Left Democrat Party. They have targeted Republicans, Conservatives & the President of the United States. Section 230 should be revoked by Congress. Until then, it will be regulated!” Trump tweeted.

On Friday the morning, White House’s official Twitter account responded by reposting the censored tweet in full -- it too was in turn slapped with a warning label by Twitter.

Trump owes his seat in the Oval Office to Twitter. Without his extensive tweeting, he never would have been in a position to launch a White House bid in 2015.

You do know things and circumstances change over time right?

If you don’t, you shouldn’t be posting.

“Until then, it will be regulated!” Trump tweeted.’

President Trump’s EO is clear in that online platforms must permit and not censor conservative opinions and especially not those of President Trump.

I sure hope Trump is playing Twitter, right up to the point where they make a huge mistake and then, WHAM, Twitter will be subject to all kinds of new rules and regulations and will be watched like a hawk for any infractions. Then, after the election, full regulatory agency protocols!

Never pick a fight with someone who has more power.

Twitter is dedicated to the cause, I hope it causes the end of Twitter. ‘eff ‘em.

Let’s see what happens to Twitter if they lose their Section 230(c) protection. Something that Facebook and Google has to be concerned about, too.

He may be setting them up to have a reason to leave for Parler or Gab. That would hurt Twitter greatly. Stock would go down. All the news services and personalities would have to sign up for accounts on those platforms.

Obviously they were not impressed with his Executive Order. So what else can Trump do?

He's in charge of the entire Executive Branch. How about a "random" audit of the company and all it's corporate officers by the IRS, SEC, OSHA, EPA, EOC and every other federal agency with even a drop pf regulatory power. You know, just to make sure somebody didn't forget to dot an "I" or cross a "T" on the correct form five years ago...because that would result in huge fines.

That sure sounds like a corrupt government attacking a private busines, so I hope he does not.

Not sure why he thought it was a good idea to post something that can be interpreted as threatening to shoot demonstrators, or looters.

We don’t generally shoot looters. In fact, I guess people who own stores occasionally shoot people who are robbing them, but it is hard to NOT GET arrested if you shoot an unarmed person taking your stuff, if you can’t show that you were in danger.

We in general take a dim view of killing people over property. Which makes it hard to stop a riot, if the police can’t step in and do mass arrests.

THAT might have been a good tweet — “once the lootings start, the arrests will follow.” I know he was quoting someone, but he had a chance to be on top of this one, since he clearly was against the cops and for the guy who was killed, but this “shoot the looters” does not go well, especially since they were already looting, and we clearly were not shooting.

Also, he is not going to “take over” the national guard and direct them, he’s going to leave that in the state hands, so saying he was going to take it over is another bluster, which normally goes over but not so much in a crisis.

I don’t Twitter, Tweet, TV, Facebook, Zoom, no aps and have a land-line and a basic tracphone that I haven’t been able to find for a few months. I’m sure tracfone knows where it is. If it weren’t for Free Republic and some other conservative/Christian sites I wouldn’t know what was going on.

“Let’s see what happens to Twitter if they lose their Section 230(c) protection. Something that Facebook and Google has to be concerned about, too.”

They have a choice, publish or be a platform. They cannot be both. It wouldn’t surprise me to see this as an escalating act where Twitter pulls Trump off of Twitter, announces they are a publisher and after the election closes shop since they will lose close to 70 million people and the advertisers will pull their ads.
