Now he'll never be convicted and we are left with mob justice. Which should never be condoned.

Sometimes mob justice is the only justice left.

Look, I know I asked too much of you when I challenged you to predict an outcome, we both know nothing would happen to the attacker beyond a verbal.

But to wish a murderous beating on me, a decent law abiding person as punishment seems to be a bit much.

It is probably coming.

Right now the law is protecting them. People are restraining themselves because they still have a, in my opinion misplaced, confidence that justice and the law will get at least some of them.

Once that disappears it will get very ugly, very fast.

No, I am not hoping it will happen, because in such a scenario the innocent, probably many innocent, will be hurt as well. But it will come. It is the way human societies work.

If they had any brains they would throw a few of their fellows under the bus. The illusion of a fair and impartial justice system is almost as effective in soothing the rumblings as a real one is.

They should.

A dozen underlings and about three mid-levels and one top tier who dramatically does the whole, "Falling on my sword because my minions did a small evil. Oh, woe!" thing. It would pour a lot of oil on the waters.

But they won't do it. I can give them good advice because I know they will never take it.
