"This is a tough one."

Hardly. Twitter and Facebook aren't private in the least bit. They are both PUBLICLY-TRADED companies on the stock exchange.

ALSO, BOTH of these companies have CLEARLY risen to the level of being PUBLIC UTILITIES used for mass communication and in many cases the SOLE media by which certain information is broadcast and shared (Fire/Police Depts, etc)..

AT&T, Sprint, & Verizon, are not permitted to censor your phone discussions and neither should Twitter and Facebook!

Under what article? It’s a private company. If conservatives give up the Constitution, we have nothing to fall back on or defend. We become hypocrites.

Afraid you've got that backwards - the social media platforms have set the precedent. The question is now what to do about it. Nothing is going to come out of Congress, so that's out, the companies are not going to police themselves since they are in collaboration with domestic and foreign political operatives, so that just leaves one man to stand in the gap between us and them. Worrying about what may or may not be in the future is a waste of brain time since the communistas have made it quite plain what they will do no matter what any law or a regulation says. Support the President, while we still have one.

Desert - you are correct - an exec order can be overruled by Congress - on second thought that does make sense. Thanks for correcting me.

After Twitter’s suspension of Mitch McConnell’s Senate reelection account last year and the suspension of the accounts of several GOP congressmen in 2018, there is ZERO chance of the Democrats having enough votes to override a presidential veto if any such bill were ever to pass. GOP congressmen have been calling for Twitter to be brought to heel for years.

There was a court case not too long ago that affirmed they were a private company and not a public utility. I forget which social media company it was. They can censor all day and all night and they can do so because they are a private company.

Trump's exec order can only involve the exec branch or declare a national day of prayer - that sort of thing. I think it will be more along the lines of ordering the DOJ to investigate whether they are too big and should be split up, such as IBM and Ma Bell was sued by the government on the last day of LBJ's term and the suit was active into the 80s - or investigate the possibility they are public utilities subject to regulation (despite the law suit - things change) - or perhaps order the FEC to investigate election tampering...or all of them. I think that is where it is headed.

Trump just can't order them not to censor - it doesn't work that way. He is not a dictator and the law certainly doesn't support him in that effort.

With Twitter’s demonstrated admission that they are a player instead of a platform they become liable for any comments which were ever posted, or will ever be posted, on Twitter.

They aren’t even news agencies, they’re privately run public forums

To paraphrase from # 381:
They have risen to the level of being public utilities, used for mass communication and in many cases the sole media by which certain information is broadcast and shared.
AT&T, Sprint, & Verizon, are not permitted to censor your phone discussions and neither should Twitter.

You better cheer on when a D is prez and starts running the EO’s against guns or free speech or whatever.

Except this EO is FOR free speech. It is Twitter that is suppressing free speech, not Trump.

Not to mention being sued for illegal campaign contributions which is what this is.
Yoel Roth is clearly trying to facilitate massive election fraud for the Democrats through mail in balloting.

Public accommodation rules to apply to social media? Probably the same as whether a phone company can pull your phone service over the content of your call. But, if the content is itself a crime maybe so. Seems ok to me.

Good to hear.

The faster the large platforms are turned into utilities, the better for our country.

Taking the power out of the hands of the leftist oligarchs is needed, now.

FB Twit, Goog, Reddit, Insta, Utube to name the biggest communication platforms that need to be turned into utilities with the ability to sell their services without censorship. That should be user driven with tools that would be available to them perhaps for a price too.

Remember the cable companies and the cell phone companies need to be regulated as utilities as well.

not if there is a concerted effort to turn them into utilities.

there is precedent.

Utilities are not private businesses.

and that is what these monolithic companies have turned into .

He needs to go after them all

I know, we can unionize them. Nationalize them, then form a nation of nationalized unions. What may be called a Soviet Soyuz.

what a foolish thought.

If you cannot see the difference between utilities and other kinds of businesses we part company.

really? Fascist?

You really want your local power company making a judgment on whether it chooses to provide you power, dependent upon whether it endorses and supports the kinds of appliances you use? And comes to your house regularly to do an audit on your electrical usage and appliances? Taking away the ones it does not approve?

Grovel leftist tool!

I thought you were done. In fact, what we’ve done in Texas is deregulated the power company from state owned to many smaller companies that are much cheaper.

Competition, you know, like how a conservative would support. It’s supposed to be a ‘free market’ out there. The left hates Amazon for its success. The right hates Twitter cause it can add comments. In the end, neither side is always wrong or always right. Though left is much more wrong usually.

Deregulation is not always better. Not when it comes to utilities.

I watch the deregulation here erode one of the best power grids in the country, with off shore ownership, and third world level maintenance.

cheap prices are not the only good.

Again, there was this thing called CCCP that believed in regulating utilities to the max. Odd to see such a blatant fascist/communist on here.
