can my e-mail service, my phone provider, UPS or Fed Ex censor the content of my correspondence?
To: Fai Mao
Don't care...
My stance is...no one should use FB.
That is my opinion....

Yes, private companies have the right to deny you freedom of speech. Companies do it all the time and it has been upheld by the courts over and over and over.
It seems little understood that freedom of speech, censorship, etc applies only to the government, not to private companies.

Rush had a better example today that I think explains it clearly. Social media companies are like empty vessels since its users can post anything they want. Because of that, social media companies are not subject to libel laws - they just let others make use of their platforms. Rush also compared social media companies to bookstores. No one sues a bookstore for libel, but they sue the publisher of the book. So if social media companies are like bookstores, they are just letting others use their platforms (or phone lines).
So when social media companies add content (such as fact checking), they can now be sued for libel because they now have their own content and are now publishers. They can still censor since they are private companies but can now be sued for libel.

And the next Obama can require them to carry Black Panther TV and Friday prayers. They do that already in one form or another.

Let the free markets control what happens. Silly we will be a communist nation long before that could happen.

I think you are confusing an executive order with a regulation issued by a department or agency. Congress can’t override an exec order, but they can take it to court.

Perhaps they became *publisher* the moment they issued editorial ‘fact checking’ on POTUS’ tweet.

There was a court decision a few months ago that denied the claim they were a public utility. If that ever happens, yes they can be regulated but not at the moment.

Thank you, Im kinda shocked at the brownshirt approval of the government coming in and controlling the activities of private companies. And if a private company was here building arms and arming an invading army you would be ok with that. Got it.

This does nothing. EOs are worthless UNLESS a Democrat gives them and then they become LAW. Eos become law if congress doesn't overturn them, or don't you know that?

Free market solution: come up with a different platform and market the crap out of it. Sure maybe you could get the ChiComs to finance it for you, except they would be competing with themselves since hey have fingers in all the other pies.

Why? Because the POTUS may only use executive orders to dictate the policies, practices, and procedures for executive departments. Facebook, Twitter, etc., are not part of the executive department, and not even a branch of government. End of story. And a great big, Har de har, har, har, to that.

You are confused. It has been tlong established by tons of court rulings that private companies are not subject to the 1st amendment. Free speech applies only to the government - only to the government.
And yes, phone companies reject phone sex lines or anything else they might find objectionable. Recall that banks have declared they are closing the accounts of gun store owners - that is a form of censorship and they have the right to do that. And some banks have said they won't be processing credit card transactions of gun manufacturers/gun store owners.
It is a settled issue for centuries. Only the government is subject to the 1st amendment, not private companies. Private companies censor all the time - from prohibiting what their employees can say/do to banning people they don't like on their social media platforms, as FreeRepublic has done and will do in the future. FreeRepublic censors.

There was an excellent post made on here a few weeks ago showing all the links between media ( MSM and social) and the Chicomms. Will see if I can find it. It certainly shed light on lots of happenings in recent years.
