Too much CO2 in the mask causes global warming in the brain. Seriously though, get real. Millions of hardworking Americans have been wearing masks on the job for years. It isn’t a health risk any more than hydroxychloroquine.
Not to most people, but it is a risk to some. That’s why OSHA requires employers to have employees undergo a medical evaluation before requiring them to wear respirators of any kind.

But those with limited knowledge are easily buffaloed by somebody who seems to make sense.
The principle of re-breathing Co2 and blacking out is true. Called shallow water blackout. It is cause by using a snorkel and not breathing deeply. The Co2 builds up in the length of snorkel and the swimmer blacks out.
A mask has nowhere near the volume of a snorkel and there is very little old air remaining after each exhale.

People do all sorts of things on the job that are health risks.
The same people that say it traps in CO2 (a gas) are the same folks saying the mask doesn’t stop a virus (a particle).
And BTW - many of those hardworking Americans have been wearing masks caked with wood, sheetrock and cement dust.
