Five Quick Things: Let That Mask Slip
The American Spectator ^ | 25 May 20 | Scott McKay

Posted on 05/25/2020 5:58:19 AM PDT by SkyPilot

That mask isn't virtuous, nor is it going to keep you from catching the virus. Plus, various other things.

It’s time to say a few things which need to be said — and to irritate some people who need to be irritated (as they are surely irritating).

And on with the show…

1. Enough with the Mask-Nazi nonsense.

Those of us who refuse to live our lives in fear, or to bow to those who do, have a message for the rest of you — the time has come and gone for us to continue with this idiotic charade of wearing masks in public.

The mask is not an adequate defense against the COVID-19 virus, gang. The virus checks in at somewhere between 0.06 and 0.14 microns, meaning it’s too small for any commercially available mask to effectively filter it out. The pores on an N95 mask, which are the best masks you’re reasonably going to find, and the vast, vast majority of you are not going to have N95 masks but rather cloth masks which perform far less well, are 0.3 microns.

Meaning that while the N95 mask you wish you had but don’t, and that you shouldn’t have because doctors and nurses who have to treat coronavirus patients daily in hospitals need a steady supply of them, might trap the virus most of the time, that crappy cloth mask you’re wearing is more or less worthless. All it’s doing is signaling to people that you think you care more about the virus than they do.

But if you really want to wear that mask, OK. Go ahead and wear it. It’s time to stop giving the stink-eye, or worse, a piece of your Karen mind, to people who aren’t impressed with your Mask Virtue...

Imagine being so insecure you think wearing a mask makes you look weak.

People who wear a mask ARE weak and insecure.

Police at the bank: Can you describe the robber?
Teller at the bank: He was this tall and wearing a mask.

If masks do not work to protect the wearer- then please share your thoughts on why the very first thing, over a year ago - well before Covid-19 became known to this part of the world - Mayo told new transplant hubby to ALWAYS wear a mask whenever he entered ANY medical facility - where other sick people might very likely be.

Thanks much in advance, FRiend.

the “review” of “studies” from over 10 years ago that you linked to was actually related to Personal Protective Equipment provided to firefighters and healthcare professionals

Quote the exact text that specifies this.

Quote the exact text that specifies this.

“The use of masks and respirators to prevent transmission of influenza: a systematic review of the scientific evidence”

The fact that you believe “masks and respirators” in the title of the document you linked to refers to dust masks and pieces of cloth fastened over your face and not PPE (personal protective equipment) used by health-care professionals is laughable to begin with.

“influenza” is in the title as well... you would never refer to the current form of novel coronavirus as the flu would you? That won't make the merry little band of fearpers here happy. Don't you realize that your “expert” leadership believes this as “easy to catch as the common cold” but has a “7% death rate”. Come on man what are you thinking?

“The initial review was performed in November 2009 and updated in June 2010 and January 2011.”

Kind of speaks for itself.

“Six of eight randomised controlled trials found no significant differences between control and intervention groups (masks with or without hand hygiene; N95/P2 respirators).”

Somehow they mention “N95/P2 respirators” but not dust masks and pieces of cloth worn over your face. This is in the second paragraph of the abstract at the very beginning of the link you provided. You are wasting everyones time here when you don't even bother to read the second paragraph found at the link that you provided.

The fact that you believe [blah blah blah]

"Masks" is unspecified in the text you quote (respirators are PPE). Your nattering about my supposed beliefs is irrelevant to what the text does or, in this case, does not specify.

“influenza” is in the title as well

And SARS studies are in the body.

(masks with or without hand hygiene; N95/P2 respirators).” [...] This is in the second paragraph of the abstract

The abstract refers to "medical masks" once in the midst of 7 references to "masks", no adjective - in which 7 cases they were therefore not restricting the discussion to medical masks. Further, Table 3 refers to "Double-layer cotton mask" - and to "using mask frequently in public places" and "wearing mask when outside home" by probable SARS cases contacted by random or sequential phone dialing, rather than health care workers.

You lose. Again.

The “review” that you linked to and all these studies done over ten years ago were referring to dust masks and homemade bandannas made out of old T-shirts. Sure, that's the ticket! Ha Ha. Yes, you won... the contest to determine who the dullest tool in the shed was. You better cut back on the marijuana... you are showing signs of a delusional thought process and irreversible brain damage.

Beating straw men because you can't refute what was actually said ... very sad.

This typifies the real problem: the powers that be don’t use common sense or exercise critical judgment. A mask in a space crowded with people makes sense. A mask in the great outdoors does not. But bureaucrats aren’t paid or rewarded for thinking, they are paid to implement regulations and control.

The “one size fits all” approach has been exposed by this virus to be a bankrupt way of doing things but it is the only way the government understands..

Question: if corona is so “highly contagious”, wouldn’t most people have caught it in the 3-4 months it was already here before the March lockdowns began?

I think a lot of people did catch it. They just didn't know it was COVID-19. My wife and I both had very serious respiratory illnesses in early January. All the symptom for COVID
