G. Filling a Vacancy on the National Ticket: In the event of death, resignation or disability of a nominee of the Party for President or Vice President after the adjournment of the National Convention, the National Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee shall confer with the Democratic leadership of the United States Congress and the Democratic Governors Association and shall report to the Democratic National Committee, which is authorized to fill the vacancy or vacancies.

When Gov Carnahan died in a plane crash right before the election, and his wife was named to replace him, a judge deemed that any votes for him, would be for her, and she won. The same thing might’ve happened when they replaced Toricelli with Lautenberg. They are planning to do whatever it takes.

But that doesn’t matter....da rulez are silent on delegate counts etc...it’s basically up to the DNC to pick whoever they want...it could be Bernie, it could be Hillary, it could be Michelle, it could be Bloomberg, it could be Caroline Kennedy, it could be anyone on MSNBC...ANYONE.

I bet it’s just standard contingency rules that they have, and not specifically put in place because of Joe Biden.
I’m sure some older folks here remember in 1972, when Thomas Eagleton was replaced as the vice-presidential nominee by Sargent Shriver. That event happened after the convention and it was done by a vote of Democratic National Committee members,and not a vote of all convention delegates.
Those rules have been in place for some time, because they make sense.
Interestingly, the Republican National Committee can do the same, but could also choose to reconvene the convention.

I thought the DNC would suddenly declare a new nominee to replace Biden who babbled and cried and was incoherent in an interview on live TV. Do they want Hillary, Michelle O, Bernie or Cuomo? Somebody knows.
But your idea is better. They arrange for Biden to die just before the certification of electors and judges appointed by Obama declare Dem replacement the winner over Trump. Then, weeks go by before the SCOTUS will vote but RBG suddenly dies. What a good movie to replace Advise and Consent.
Too bad we have to live in it.
