They Killed Everything Beautiful

Though neither of us is an artist or musician, my wife and I have been close to the music and arts community in central Massachusetts for more than 40 years, as volunteers, through recording locally-performed classical music concerts and broadcasting them on the local community radio station. As volunteers we also support the local Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra in many different ways, so we are fully aware of the enormous behind-the-scenes preparation - and time - and money - needed to put on a good show.

On March 17, 2020 (St. Patrick's Day), this all stopped. Full. Dead. Stop.

At first the various events managers postponed their concerts and shows, assuming this was just a temporary delay. But after two or three weeks it became obvious that the bureaucrats were going to push this overwrought quarantine into overdrive, and they began cancelling.

Overseas orchestras and soloists cancelled their tours because they couldn't fly into the U.S. Music Worcester's entire spring concert season, cancelled. Mechanics Hall in Worcester, one of the top dozen concert halls in the country because of its acoustical perfection, closed. Tuckerman Hall, also a very fine and beautiful space, open but with few events and no musical events. All concerts by local groups, cancelled because the performers were unable to meet and rehearse. Worcester's magnificent Hanover Theatre (home for touring Broadway shows), shuttered. July 4 fireworks and concert by the Massachusetts Symphony in Worcester's East Park, gone.

“Progressivism” is the enemy of all virtue, value, goodness and beauty.

“....the music and arts community in central Massachusetts.”

The Arts community of Central Mass? That right there is a rich statement. Worcester, Fitchburg, Charlton....those do not strike anyone in MA as artsy places. Unless you are talking about graffiti on the walls of abandoned factories.

They think playing guns and roses in their tool shed is Tanglewood.

This didn’t happen only in MA or even just the Dem states; even “good” governors, such as FL, shut down concerts (as well as everything else).

They just didn’t do it for quite as long but even so seasons are cancelled, the tours are canceled, and I think a lot of small orchestras and community groups simply won’t be coming back. Even things like rock bands and singers were cancelled for this nonsense, so it affects everybody regardless of what kind of entertainment you lik.

Also, art museums were closed, children’s museums, automobile museums, etc...you get the idea. Again a lot of them just scrape by and I don’t see how they’re coming back.

No, this is all about the Federal government, because none of this could have happened without the nonsense spewing from Fauci (who admired the Chinese “response” to the virus).

Never miss an opportunity to blame things leftists don’t like on the left itself.

There are lots of community choruses, community orchestras, And generally also a fair number of garage band and start up singers in these small communities. And they and the deplorables living there are very proud of them and enjoy participating, thank you!

Don’t be so fast dismiss small towns and rural communities.

Yes, but I think our problem is bigger than that now, unfortunately. I’d like to see some real leadership from the GOP on getting us out of this.

I lived in Central MA for years. And in Western MA for the ready. I am not dismissing anyone. But if the David Prouty Regional High School a cappella group is “the Arts”, then have at it.

They do have a Republican governor. However, the last Republican Governor they had was Mittens Delecto.

I remember Howie Carr saying that Gov. Charlie “Parker” claimed that he wasn’t even GOPee really.

For that to happen they would have to stop thinking of Democrats as their friends and stop desiring the approval and adulation of the press.

Besides being just plain dumb it leads them to be backstabbing quislings when it comes to keeping promises to voters,

Progressivism is a very very fancy word for what it truly represents...evil “COMMUNISM”!!! Unfortunately many stupid blind lazy Americans have fallen for it hook, line and sinker! God help us because I really believe the only cure for what ails America is a good hardcore CIVIL WAR! Truth be told...America is on the cusp of annihilation if we don’t fight for our beloved freedoms!!

It’s not. But a lot of people get their start singing in a high school choir , which is also a big part of social life even if only their mothers can love the sound. All of our private and civic life is being crushed, I think that’s the point.

It took a media-generated panic to enable fascist-minded politicians and bureaucrats to create the monotonous, static and boring world in which we now live. Here’s hoping that they over-reached and that a red wave will sweep them away in November.

At least these artists are alive and can comeback later.

The grannies who were harvested/killed in nursing homes by blue governors are gone forever!

(granny harvesting) Via the orders of Blue Governors!

Cuomo panicked when he relied upon the prophecies of the high priests of The Science(TM). So, to make room in hospitals, he passed a death sentence on nursing home residents. It’s as simple as that.

It must have been tough enough telling people you came from a town called “Athol.” Losing your symphony orchestra only put salt in the wound.
