FBI had pictures of the goats...

It is all very easy for every one of us to criticize Sessions. We just don't know what they were holding over him. In hindsight, he should have just resigned.

What is Trump really trying to accomplish? Sessions war is just a means to an end.

Unfortunately, Rosenstein was not the only swamp dweller to get through Trump’s early vetting process. But he sure created havoc.

Having some experience in state politics / campaigns in the past, your response is right on. Politics is an ugly business, trust almost no one - even in your own party. One has to figure out how to deal with these people to get something done.

We cannot forget that Trump was a total outsider. He is not blameless for any of his decisions, he had to learn some hard lessons on the job. But at the end of the day, a lot of what he said - he was spied upon, Russia hoax, fake news, terrible people .... was mocked and worse ... yet... it is finally coming out ... the outsider was right. Who was there to help him for the American people, from the beginning? For that I will overlook some of his mistakes.

“Trump’s fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the AG which continues today.”

You have my curiosity. What is the fundamental AG role in your view and how does Trump misunderstand?

Too much Senate “Bonhomie”hail fellow well met— inside his assumed to have integrity Justice Dept. with many obi won and Holder hold overs... and of course the Tres Amigos— Comey, Rosenstein and Mueller. Sessions was convinced, by Rosenweasel that his conversations with Russians required his recusal in re: the FAKE Russia Russia narrative.

He claims that the DOJ “rules” had to be followed (NO- they did not they are not LAWS, and Sessions should not have been lured into public “recusal” by the freaking lying demonrats on the committee-— Al Franken at the time iirc, and others. He should have just said “I’ll consult counsel on this as to the probity and the predication”. See— that’s how sharpie Phila.lawyers would answer. But not a nice goober from Alabama whom the jew-ish criminal (now quite evident) Rosenswine set up.

Your analysis is spot on. Always rising above the fray until they disappear from the ring then the dems run amok.

Trump's understanding of the AG's role is probably better than you realize.

Too many Americans -- mainly leftists and big-government types -- see the U.S. Department of Justice as a "fourth branch" of government designed to operate independently of the other three. Nothing could be further from the truth. Not only does such a "fourth branch" have no place in government under the U.S. Constitution, but the DOJ didn't even exist until 1870. Up until that point the U.S. Attorney General and the various U.S. Attorneys were organized under the U.S. Treasury Department, and their purpose was to represent the U.S. government in what were primarily CIVIL matters, not CRIMINAL matters.

The whole thing went off the rails when the DOJ became a criminal prosecution enterprise, prosecuting offenses that never should have been Federal crimes in the first place.

GBC: “Trump wanted a fixer like Obama had.”

You know this how? Mind reading much?

What is the role of the AG? Is the AG a separate branch of government or an employee of the Executive Branch? If it’s the latter, who runs that branch?

There is a lot to be said about 28 CFR Sec. 45.2.

IT reads:

(a) Unless authorized under paragraph (b) of this section, no employee shall participate in a criminal investigation or prosecution if he has a personal or political relationship with:
(1) Any person or organization substantially involved in the conduct that is the subject of the investigation or prosecution; or
(2) Any person or organization which he knows has a specific and substantial interest that would be directly affected by the outcome of the investigation or prosecution.

First, the entire Mueller team could not participate in the Mueller investigation. Name one who recused himself.

2nd, Sessions was not an employee. He was a constitutional officer of the government with principal responsibility for overseeing the DOJ and FBI.

3rd, What did Sessions do to convince himself that what his out of control coup plotters was doing was a well-founded "criminal investigation."

"Were on to something and it involves your friend the President, so you are out of it and we cannot tell you anything."

IOWs Sessions ducked his oath of office, his responsibilities under law and the Constitution, and cut and run without assuring himself that there was good cause to do so.

True, it took no effort or courage (to support Trump early on) and was a win-win for Sessions: Trump wins, Sessions is a genius, Trump loses - too bad...

In fact, 5 CFR § 550.202 Definitions.

Employee means an individual employed in or under an agency who is appointed to a position with a scheduled tour of duty.

Head of agency means the head of an agency or an official who has been delegated the authority to act for the head of the agency in the matter concerned.

Sessions was not an employee. He was the head of agency.
