Actually , Japanese are big recyclers . Cans , bottles ( inc. plastic ) , newspapers , metal , cardboard boxes ...virtually anything that can be recycled . A truck comes to our neighborhood from Mon. thru Friday and we have a monthly schedule . Reg. garbage is picked up on Mon. and Thurs . Items for recycle are collected on the other 3 days .

I wonder if it is a generational thing. Most of the Japanese I interact with are 21-30. Maybe it reminds them too much of chores at home.
