Memorial Day Weekend Corona Virus Thread
There is one way to stop war forever—create super high tech sex dolls cheap enough for every man on the planet—men won’t want to leave them long enough to go fight each other.
;-)
Its all over my head, no pun intended lol
Efficacy of masks is not new. This has been studied and debated for decades. I remember reading the different studies as far back as 2007ish when I was prepping for bird flu. FluTrackers has logged studies and articles for the past 16 years concerning masks.
The only difference is today, the various factions today just choose whichever study happens to support their agenda at the moment. Some of the studies Ive read recently are downright misleading at best.
California doesn’t seem to be included in most of the sites that track hospitalizations and ICU beds. Per the link below it looks like CA has declining hospitalizations almost everywhere, including LA, and has an overall decline in beds filled.

I guess we’ll see soon if there is an uptick from Memorial Day weekend, and all the openings happening over the coming week.
Re: 363 - I agree that masks have value - when worn properly and donned/doffed properly. There’s a reason that people on certain types of chemo are encouraged to wear masks or people around them are encouraged to wear masks.
I think one of the problems is the CDC has lost a lot of credibility on mask wearing. The studies about masks as you note have been around for awhile. It did not just pop up in the CDC’s mind that something other than a N95 mask could have value. I believe them changing their position has damaged their credibility.
I think the other problem is that people are so misinformed about masks and what they can/can’t do. I am busy with my ornithology research, so am in they field several hours every day. Some lady sees my car pulled over as I go to check a nestbox grid and asks if everything is okay. I told her about my research and she says “Shouldn’t you have a mask on?”.
I said I was more apt to get West Nile Virus from a mosquito bite - and *it* doesn’t spread via respiratory means - than being infected from SARS-CoV-2 doing field research. She really thinks wearing a mask in public means *everywhere* outside in public. It’s just a waste of a mask and useless to wear in certain situations

My brother in law has invented a nitric oxide lozenge called NEO40 that is far more effective than the breathable stuff.
I’ve been popping it twice a day since this stuff started.

“Interesting question. One could extrapolate to other hemoglobinopathies such as G6PD deficiency (which interestingly is more common in black pts.) Oxidative stress worsens this condition. It can be treated with drugs like HCQ, quinine, ASA, NSAIDS, quinolones, nitrofuraontoin. But these pts get anemia, hemolysis, jaundice etc. I’ve not seen that with COVID-19. Methemoglobinemia is another disorder associated with oxidized iron in the ferric F3+ form instead of the ferrous F2+. O2 is dissociated leading to deadly consequences. It is diagnosed by PO2/pulse oximetry discordance, and dark “brown” colored blood - both not seen in COVID-19 pts. It is treated with iron reducing agents like methylene blue.
Sickle cell trait (heterozygous SA) is seen in 1/10 black pts. Fascinating to me. Could very well be playing a role. These pts don’t do well with lung injury. Not to mention sickle cell disease (homozygous SS) (1/365 blacks). But once again hemolysis is profound in these pts and I haven’t seen much in the COVID-19 ARDS patients.
Then there’s thallasemias - too much to get into!! Need a hematologist to chime in.
Blood transfusion can be used for methemoglobinemia and sickle cell disease.
One last forest/trees comment re this. These severe pts have profound hypoxia (PO2) in dissolved blood. Hemoglobin damage itself isnt going to effect PO2 levels.
interesting reviews on neo-40

this neo-40 deserves some looking into given that it is being looked at as to whether n.oxide helps with covid 19.
Not sure I believe these videos of the test strips.
Seems to me that, of course, your level will be high if you just sucked on a lozenge and then you are using the tongue to test it.
Apparently, it can be used for a variety of issues like high blood pressure, restless legs, sleep apnea , etc
I am probably going to buy a box.
I have started eating beets for the first time in my life. Eat them with cottage cheese.
A Texags family member developed this NEO-40 lozenge nitric oxide product. Do you have any opinion on it?
