Memorial Day Weekend Corona Virus Thread
I disagree with this actually.
All this ‘support’ does is enable the ones who believe it’s a hoax or a head cold to maintain their belief system.
It’s time for tough love with this thing.
Worst case scenario, vaccinate for sars2, get ADE for every human coronavirus...
One of the commercial pilots (a young one) at my airport fears lung damage.
There’s a reason china isn’t going herd immunity with this.
I suspect long term damage in a portion of the younger generation is a part of their reasoning.
Sad about the kids and long term damages but we knew it was coming.
Our school board bought school supplies for all students. Didn’t lower taxes. Ok, so do we get a refund since they’re supposed to do 8 weeks of remote learning? Notice they didn’t wait until after deciding if we were having remote learning or in class or what. Notice they didn’t wait until the back to school sales where supplies are 10-25 cents a piece. But, hey, they were just spending other people’s money.
When ours were in school, we barely spent anything on school supplies. Maybe $25 and that included a Walmart backpack. I still have crayons from when I was in 4th grade back in the 60s and have my old wooden rulers under this laptop to help out the vents. This desk is full to overflowing with the kids’ leftover school supplies. No, I don’t mind using little blunt end elementary school scissors. You don’t need to purchase all new supplies every year.
Oh, just saw students can be on the P-EBT lunch and dinner program. You get one guess what the P stands for.

“Some ask, “in what way can #3GD & Wuhan flooding affect us outside of China?” In MANY ways; 1 way is: 80-90%+ basic pharma drug material world uses (97% antibiotics US uses) comes from Wuhan China. Most of those factories sit next to Yangtze.
Flooded Wuhan = global drug shortage”
(I thought we were going to be making our own antibiotics again...?)
” Monoclonal antibodies will be VERY expensive as a treatment. “
May be.
Been very surprised at the advnncement of science.
a
Any drug that ends in ‘...mab’ is a monoclonal antibody.
Stroke a check with your signature and let the medicos fill in the $$$ amount...kind of money.

May be.
But may be not.

Coronavirus vaccine developers wary of errant antibodies
Concerns persist that COVID-19 vaccines could cause antibody-dependent enhancement, which can potentiate viral entry into host cells and worsen disease.

Abstract
Viruses are efficient metabolic engineers that actively rewire host metabolic pathways to support their lifecycle. Charting SARS-CoV-2 induced metabolic changes in lung cells could offer insight into COVID-19 pathogenesis while presenting new therapeutic targets. Here we show that the transcriptional response SARS-CoV-2 in primary lung epithelial cells and biopsies of COVID-19 patients is predominantly metabolic. This transcriptional signature was dominated by changes to lipid metabolism and the induction of IRE1 and PKR pathways of endoplasmic stress in a process regulated by several viral proteins. Transcriptional regulatory analysis of these changes reveals small clusters of transcription factors modulating key enzymes in each pathway. The upregulation of glycolysis and the dysregulation of the citric acid cycle was mediated by NFkB and RELA. While the upregulation of fatty acid and cholesterol synthesis showed a more complex control conditionally modulated by ER-stress activated PPARy, C/EBP, and PPARa. Viral protein ORF3a appeared to interact with all three pathways suggesting both direct and indirect modulation of host metabolism. Finally, we show that PPARa;-agonist fenofibrate reversed the metabolic changes induced by SARS-CoV-2 blocking viral replication. Taken together, our data suggest that elevated lipid metabolism may underlie aspects of COVID-19 pathogenesis, offering new therapeutic avenues in targeting this critical pathway on which the virus relies.

Conclusions
Later statewide emergency declarations and school closure were associated with higher Covid-19 mortality. Each day of delay increased mortality risk 5 to 6%.
