Memorial Day Weekend Corona Virus Thread
That meme is what nightmares are made of. I forgot to mention, ACE2 is highly expressed in the kidneys too. Got Chloramines?
Maybe Dr. Fauci is allowing Foamy the Squirrel to run things.
Got renal diets?
Local news said not transmissible.
Regardless of the ‘game of telephone’, that’s how it will be interpreted by most.
Which was the intent.
So, other than necessary trips, we stay home until this is done.
Any information/data on long term kidney damage numbers/demographics/ages/etc from this?
Ditto heart and lung damage?
That’s effed up. Nobody sane would assume a virus that seems to spread more like measles among certain groups than that R0 = 2.5 to 4 they keep talking about (bad enough) would be UN-transmissible from a surface. Maybe DIFFICULT to transmit from a surface, but not IMPOSSIBLE.
PERIOD.
When her eighth test overall came back negative, she was quite excited, but it takes two negative results in a 24-hour period to be considered recovered. When she took her ninth test less than 24 hours later, it came back positive much to her surprise and dismay.
She told CTV News: Whenever I get the test result, its like somebody punches me in the stomach.
Although her doctors dont think she is still contagious, they cannot explain why her tests keep coming back positive. The mother of three is now worried that shell have the disease forever. She said she did not have any pre-existing conditions, but the ongoing positive test results have her worried that shell suffer long-term complications ...
Interpretation of this from non science people? (I know, I’ve spent the day explaining this to friends)...’you have to work at it to get this from surfaces’, ‘you can’t get this from a doorknob or elevator button’.
Why should we stop trying to fix stupid?
You’re ignoring the fact that although economic slowdowns cause economic problems, ignoring the recommendations causes problems that are far worse.
I’m going to continue to try to fix stupid. I’m contenting with those who don’t seem to know that life is more important than money, but I don’t see any alternative but to keep trying to fix stupid.
Just individual case studies with SARS2. Most of the works I have read was with SARS1.
I had to look that up. Nightmare #2.
There have been many studies over the years of the 4 coronaviruses that cause common cold symptoms, all of them showing 6-12 months of immunity. One study showed that after about 6 months, you can be reinfected with HCoV-229E and be asymptomatic, yet still shed the virus at contagious levels. It seems really likely at this point that SARS-CoV2 confers at least 5 or 6 months immunity, and hopefully much longer.
Yeah, but a $1.29 microwave meal is 5 minutes, in which time a drink and an extra side and desert (usu. fruit) can be pulled out of the fridge. $2.50 tops, fewer dishes, no pots and pans, ladles, spatulas, etc., to wash, dry, and put away. “Same” either way = the utensils, maybe one side bowl or plate, and a cup or glass (usually just rinsed out and reused during the day unless used for milk.)
I almost NEVER even in the past drove from home to get fast food, but I DID stop by such often if going by anyway. 5 minutes typical, again, might be buying enough for 2 meals or more. BIG difference from your pattern, but typical for many people.
Making interesting side salads from scratch, which I like for both taste and health, takes time too: For example, tear up the lettuce, cut up some onion, chicken (may have done that earlier), apple, tomato, maybe sprinkle in a little cheese...) It all adds up. Fish cleaning, an occasional chicken butchered or gather and clean eggs (never mind taking CARE of the dang birds!) — All I know is that to make healthier food @ home that I LIKE, with cleanup(!), takes on average about an hour a day, sometimes a bit more, although “a bit more” usually results in more leftovers.
Of course that micro meal or Little Caesars’ 2 slices of pizza ($1.25 plus tax) has all sorts of not-so-good goodies in it, starting with maybe 40% of my sodium for the entire day! That’s why I ditched most of that stuff and pay the (time) price.
The sensible thing to do would be mostly ditch FR, I suppose... :-(
Did any of those studies look at severity of symptoms vs. level of immunity acquired?
six months would be good. But I wouldn’t count on it if H1N1 is any measure. Didn’t the Brits publish that only about 17% of their recovered had antibodies for any length of time?
In a week or two, the CCP will release info regarding their mass testing. Likely a farce as is everything else they’ve released. First, because they are charging $130US for the test, meaning that those who don’t have the funds are going to hide again, and, it’s more than likely a way for the chi-coms to recap lost revenue from the millions of contaminated tests and defective ppe that was returned by a dozen countries in the past month even if they infect their own people doing it. Today they claimed 1M tests in one day and a 1.5M the day before - all in Wuhan. Even with the 70 labs they quietly opened up, I doubt they have the equipment or manhours to process those swabs in a week. Some video reports say they aren’t even marking the tubes with identifying info and one video showed they were cheek swabbing instead of nose swabbing. It’s astounding how the Chi-coms have brought a whole new meaning to smoke and mirrors.
‘I’m looking for the truth’: States face criticism for COVID-19 data cover-ups
“...The CDC and at least 11 other states have been combining the results of viral tests showing active infections with the results of antibody tests, which show whether someone had been infected in the past. While boosting a state’s total testing number, health experts have said that practice does not give a proper picture of how the virus is spreading, the Associated Press reported.
The CDC announced it planned to separate the data and some of those states have stopped doing so or committed to change course, CNN reported.
...[Frieden, who ran the CDC under Zero, said] “... much would be improved if the CDC would provide and explain the meaning of such data, adding though “much more information is available, it has not been standardized, validated and presented in clear and compelling ways.”
rather cheeky for Frieden to be speaking up, seeing it was his former job to ensure that the CDC was equipped to present information in a valid way, during and after his tenure ended

ENGLAND - much ado about nothing
Several Church of England bishops have criticized UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson after he refused to sack his chief aide Dominic Cummings, who is accused of breaking lockdown restrictions multiple times.
Cummings drove 260 miles across England in March to stay with his parents while his wife was sick with Covid-19 symptoms.
His movements, during a time when most of the UK was in lockdown, have sparked a political scandal in Britain.

Youre Getting Used to Masks. Will You Wear a Face Shield?
...
Dr. Perencevich is an infectious disease physician at the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Veterans Affairs Health Care System. In an opinion article published last month in JAMA, he and two colleagues argued that simple, clear plastic face shields could help reduce the transmission of infections when added to public health measures like increased testing, contact tracing, social distancing and hand hygiene.
...
In Singapore, preschool students and their teachers will receive face shields when they return to school next month. Local health experts recommended teachers in Philadelphia wear shields when schools reopen, and a teachers union in Palo Alto, Calif. requested them as well.
