Connecticut is the last of all 50 states to ease social-distancing orders

Connecticut will on Wednesday allow residents to eat in outdoor restaurants and shop inside stores, becoming the last of all 50 states to ease social-distancing orders to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Still, Connecticut officials, as are those in other states, are taking a measured, step-by-step approach to reopening and getting their economies restarted.

Gyms, nail salons, spas, theaters and tattoo parlors and bars that do not serve food will remain closed until at least June 20, unless earlier modified.

"Connecticut will on Wednesday allow residents to eat in outdoor restaurants ..."

Nobody's allowed to eat in the restaurants here in Oneida County, New York, and we were given King Cuomo's nod to begin Phase One of reopening last Friday.

I just got an email from my vet (CT) explaining all the “rules” for a routine visit. My favorite part was where they apologized for their phone lines being overwhelmed but indicating they are “working on it”.

What a mess.

I am “working” on that future appointment—wink, wink...

CT was once a way to escape NY insanity - much lower real estate taxes and no income tax which helped if you worked in NY but traveled a lot in your job. Then it went to hell in a handbasket.

Exactly. I've come to the conclusion that we're not 'safe' in ANY Blue State anymore. If our house was ready to sell now, we'd be outta here in a heartbeat. Right now we'd probably move to either GA or SC. I pray *those* states don't start going Blue anytime soon...

Gov. Prickster would keep IL locked down til Nov. if he could, in hopes that President Whoever-replaces-Biden will bail the state out. The only reason the deluded fool is allowing a phased reopening is he’s afraid a court challenge might throw it all out, like in WI.

I hear ya. NY and CA *are* just as bad as CT.

However, some counties / areas of NY and CA are reopening more than the in the big-city areas. And several wonderful sheriffs in CA's less populated areas are defying Gov. Newsom's stupid lockdown orders, and allowing businesses to reopen.

Well, Salons and Barbers were supposed to open until Ned supposedly got some concerned phone calls from stylists and push it to early June, which by coincidence matched up with RI. Strange.

Ugh, Prickster may be THE worst US governor! That guy is a POS.

CT, NY, RI, etc. etc. are also waiting for federal dollars to bail their states out as well. I think our state of CT is #2 in pension obligations (and general state mismanagement of taxpayer funds), right behind Illinois.

So our taxes keep going up, and people keep moving out of state. I hope and pray my husband and I aren't the last two fools left in CT holding the bag.

Conn is a state I have no interest in visiting again. The Conn shoreline area is nice but I would not want to live here. Bad weather, bad taxes, bad government - what’s to like? At least we have sunshine and ever expanding tech jobs here in CA. And the Governor is finally jumping on the train to re-open small businesses.

My son and I were hiking along the Coastal Trail in Half Moon Bay, California with a real stiff wind blowing off the ocean. Half the people were wearing masks.

I’ve heard the virus can leave China on these breezes and easily make it to California. You just can’t be too careful. You are a lot closer to China than we are here in CA, so that extra caution is understandable.

(yup, just kidding)

I am truly VERY sorry to hear that, BunnySlippers. :-(

We have family members who live in the city of LA as well. They have a new baby, so they've been distracted, and kind of confined to home anyway for the past two months. I just roll my eyes when I see pics of them walking outside in the heat wearing masks.

At least in our semi-rural area here in CT, we do NOT wear masks outside. Nobody is monitoring us out here. As long as we stay away from any crowded outdoor trails, we have a fair amount of freedom outside. However in cities like LA, SF, NY, etc. I suppose you can't get away with that.

At least we can go into stores to look at items instead of doing order online/curbside pickup like other NE states are doing.

That is just way to screw small independent stores who don’t have the money to spend to do a online store. The chains already had that in place or were able to modify their current eCommernce website by essentially making each store a warehouse

Exactly. It's going to be interesting -- and SAD -- to see which of the small businesses survive -- and don't survive -- in CT once this is over. IF it's ever truly "over".

It will be interesting by fall to collate the different approaches, timing of approaches and case/death numbers of the various states and counties.

Just in time Phase II!

Thank you for your kind reply.

I did read that some states may require masks UNTIL THERE IS A VACCINE. The same article conceded that that might be a year of two off with folks wearing masks for a year or two.

I am having a very bad reaction to this whole thing. I’ll wear the mask...open things up!!! I’m going crazy!
