The antimalarial drug candidate for coronavirus has long been introduced as a 'game-changer' in treating COVID-19 patients. However, in recent studies, contrasting results have been seen in patients. Some claim to have improved their condition with the help of the drug, while others blame the cure for the adverse reactions it brings.
A new study from New York suggests that the drug may yield better results when used in combination with the dietary supplement, zinc. Researchers from the NYU Grossman School of Medicine placed a medical preprint on their site on Monday. Their paper is yet to be peer-reviewed.
In the study, half of 900 COVID-19 patients were given the triple-drug combo of hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and azithromycin. The other half were given only hydroxychloroquine and the antibiotic, azithromycin.
The results of the study revealed that the patients who received the triple-drug combo had a 1.5 times greater probability of getting better from the disease. They were also more likely to eventually be discharged from the hospital compared to those who were only given the double-drug combination.
The researchers note that the triple-drug combo, however, did not change the average time the patients stayed hospitalized, which was about six days. It also didn't change the average duration severely ill patients spent hooked on the ventilator, which was five days.
The drug combinations, additionally, didn't change the total amount of oxygen required by patients experiencing respiratory symptoms. Joseph Rahimian, a senior investigator and infectious disease specialist, said that it was the first study ever to examine the two combinations in contrast to each other. Furthermore, he cautioned that a controlled experiment would still be necessary to prove the benefits beyond doubt.
Rahimian said that their next approach would be to do a prospective study to see if the research holds up in people receiving zinc. Hydroxychloroquine has been proven effective in lab settings, but not in people.
The drug is said to interfere with the virus' ability to enter the body's cells and also blocks the virus' ability to replicate once they are already inside.
Is Zinc the Missing Link?
Zinc itself has antiviral properties. Previous studies have suggested that it could reduce the time people suffer from common colds.
Zinc has an interesting story behind it. It wasn't until the 1970s that it was acknowledged as an essential mineral for human health. Thanks to the work of Dr. Ananda Prasad, a 91-year-old doctor who had a hunch about the capabilities of zinc years ago. His instinct, later on, led to a better understanding of zinc's role in immunity.
His discovery was fueled when he studied a group of young men in Egypt who remained underdeveloped in many ways, particularly in height. Prasad gave them zinc supplements, and afterward, the men grew significantly taller.
According to Rahimian, zinc could do the heavy lifting when combined with hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19 patients. He adds that it could be the primary element attacking the virus. He also suggested that hydroxychloroquine could serve as an agent that transports the zinc into the cells. It could also increase the effectiveness of zinc, he says.
Doctor Pelosi, Doctor Schumer, Doctor Joy Baher and Doctor Joe Scarborough are not going to be pleased about this.

I’d like to see a study comparing hydroxychloroquine + zinc to hydroxychloroquine + azithromycin + zinc in early treatment. It would be nice to know if the azithromycin is really needed or not.
The antibiotic may be needed to prevent bacterial pneumonia from complicating things.
My understanding is that hydroxychloroquine with zinc given early enough...before sick enough to go to hospital, that it works very well...used as a prophylactic, it is very successful. That is the reason travelers to malaria pron countries, the drug is started before the traveler leaves home. I have yet to see that explanation in print.
I was going to write a snarky comment about the Science Times achieving a firm grasp on the obvious with this story. However, I see a glimmer of light in it. The press is stuck between a rock and a hard place with HCQ. It really does work, but they have been saying for months that it doesn’t. There are thousands of success stories, and dozens of scientific tests that say it does. They have simply reported only the one, or two that could be parsed to say it doesn’t.
So, how do they get out of this dilemma? They invent a new narrative. The new narrative is that ‘scientists’ have now discovered that when used with zinc and Zpak, viola!, it works. Even though the earliest success stories included this caveat, the media attacks didn’t, so this is now presented as NEWS! Note also the semi-derogatory word ‘anecdotal’ has been dropped, and semi-supportive words are used to describe the studies.
We must let them have their pipe dreams so that no crow necessary to eat.
Kind of like when they had been saying for years that Trump colluded with Russia. They invent narrative after narrative. The most shameful profession, worse even than prostitution.
In the past few years, I’ve only been sick with a cold once, and I got it after having been visiting in NYC for a few days, near coughing people on public transportation. I remember feeling like I couldn’t wash my hands fast enough after getting off the airplane.
At any rate, I started using Zicam swabs and lozenges to help fend off the cold, and it only lasted a couple of days. I haven’t been sick once with a cold or flu at all in the time between then and now.
I don’t know if I have been exposed to CoVid 19 or not, but about 15 minutes to a half an hour before I go out to run errands now, I use a Zicam nasal swab, and I use hand sanitizer while I’m out, and wash my hands as soon as I get home.
I wonder if using zinc like this is helping me stay healthy. Maybe zinc by itself helps ward off the corona virus?
Pretty much. Fauci is just so obvious. He basically trashes every cure that will not make him any money and praises to high heaven all these unproven very expensive potential new medications to high heaven cause he personally stands to make millions.
Quercetin is a zinc chelate. It helps zinc get into cells. How about quercetin and zinc?
The antibiotic keeps the immune system from having to fight a two front war, so it can concentrate on the virus.
What a great find! Over the counter and cheap. Low risk side effects if any.

How can all these people not know that HCQ is an IONOPHORE!
It allows the zinc into the cells where it interrupts the ability of the virus to replicate! I spent years in the medical field but I am not a doctor, I just pay attention! These people do it for a living, sheesh, this is not difficult!
