The Senate intelligence committee on Tuesday approved Rep. John Ratcliffe to be the next US intelligence director.
Senators approved the Texas Republican during a closed-door meeting along party lines, after he won over Republican moderates who scuttled his nomination to the same post last year.
Ratcliffe still has to be confirmed by the full Senate before replacing acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell, who also is U.S. ambassador to Germany and under consideration to lead the Presidents Intelligence Advisory Board.
Ratcliffe won over skeptics, including GOP Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, by pledging to be apolitical in the role.
Whether you are talking about the president, whether you are talking about Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell anyones views on what they want the intelligence to be will never impact the intelligence that I deliver. Never, Radcliffe testified during a confirmation hearing this month.
Ratcliffe, 54, is a lawyer and former mayor of the 7,000-person town of Heath in northeastern Texas. He was a U.S. attorney in 2007 and 2008 during the George W. Bush administration.
Ratcliffes first nomination by President Trump to be spy chief was nixed after he got a skeptical reception from Senate Republicans and came under fire for allegedly exaggerating his experience, including a specific claim that, As a U.S. Attorney, I arrested over 300 illegal immigrants on a single day.

Slow down, Grenell needs more time
Grenell is doing just fine. The one confirmation we don’t need and McConnell will probably get right on it.
There’s the full Senate vote ahead. Maybe if the Rats accuse him of sexual battery when he was in first grade, he’ll withdraw.
But this time they won’t. They are already scared to death of what Rich Grenell is doing.
The Ambassador has more docs in the cue. It’s going to be pretty, pretty good.
BE TOUGH, MR> RATCLIFFE...BE VERY TOUGH AND SMART!
Be VERY WARY of ALL DEMOCRATS!
“I like him, but I’m worried that he’s in over his head.”
It really doesn’t take all that much to declassify and release what should be declassified and released.
Okay John, your mandate is to go kick some tail . . . ASAP!

If she manages to win reelection, she'll flip to indie a.k.a. Demwit after the election.

If there’s a way to screw something up, or screw their own voters, the GOP will find a way to do it.
When they ask a question like that just respond. I will be no more political than Obama appointees.
Good. All Pubs must stand together on this confirmation.
Awesome!!!
Good choice - General Michael Flynn needs to share the job or be on the advisory board in a top position ... Trey Gowdy needs an important place at the table - then heap on the power...
Let us hope that Mr Ratcliffe shows up with body armor and a chain saw.
Trey is another Lynda Graham...all talk and no action. Name one thing he has done while in CONgress, besides blocking the subpoena’s Nunes had requested.
A good effort, but a bit on the light side.
His job is harder than that!
That is what the acting directing is doing just now and making a bigger splash than any prior hirees who were grinding it out supposedly and working hard.
TRUE!!
