President Trump told governors on a conference call Monday that he "will step in" if the federal government disagrees with state reopening plans, as he largely expressed satisfaction with how the governors are moving to lift coronavirus restrictions in their individual states, according to a report.
Trump, whose administration last month revealed guidelines for when states should begin lifting stay-at-home orders and other social distancing measures meant to slow the spread of the virus, has vocally pushed for the rapid reopening of the economy. The president said in an interview with Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo last week that his critics want the economy to remain shuttered until the November election, calling Democrats' reluctance to lift the coronavirus measures "a political thing."
"The governors are making their decisions, and want to make their decisions, and that's the way I want it to, and we will step in if we see something going wrong, or if we disagree, and some people say that's nice, and some people say I shouldn't be doing that, but we're going to do it if we see something wrong," Trump said to the governors Monday, according to audio of the call obtained by CBS.

“Federal laws, not state laws.”
Federal laws supersede state laws. You ever noticed civil rights legislation? The Federal government has complete control of voting in the various states, for example. The Federal government is in complete control of education, here in the South, at least.
Also, state governors don’t really have the authority to close their states down, which is why they justify their actions by quoting Federal guidelines for closing down.
Worse thing is that there are no metrics on how to reach "green".
Yellow will be the new red for a LOOONNNNNGGG time.
All of these states are expecting federal handouts to bail them out. Trump can work on conditions for that money, starting with sanctuary city status, and finishing with letting the states’ people live their lives, go to Church, work, commerce and recreation.
Is this playing out as it should if we didn’t let the Constitution go in the first place? No. Trump never presented himself as Thomas Jefferson or Alexis de Tocqueville. The Democrats are happy to use the words of the Constitution selectively to our destruction as a people. Pitting not just race against race, and pervert against family, but also urban vs. rural and state vs. state.
From what I have read the PA Legislature can pass a joint resolution ending Wolf’s emergency declaration.
They have GOP majorities and can surely do that.
They have flapped their gums and done everything but that.
Time to put-up or shut-up.
I love how he didn’t specify what he would see that he would say was wrong, but meanwhile has socially been clearly on the side of those wanting things opened sooner. He’s putting them in a vice, between their authoritarian instincts and their out of work people.
Name the delegated power for a federal shut down, or to regulate commerce within a State, or to regulate activity that is not commerce but tangentially affects it?
Also, only federal statutes pursuant to the federal Constitution are lawful, no matter if Congress has passed them. The vast majority of what the federal does is not pursuant to the Constitution ... so the obligation to enforce said statutes is likewise fake.
Or what do you think, if it is per Marbury worse than a solemn mockery to require justices to take their oath of office and then make them close their eyes to the Constitution and see only statutes then what is it to require anyone who takes an oath to uphold the Constitution to close their eyes to the Constitution and see only the rulings of the Court?
Trump should respect federalism its in our Constitution.
..........
Agree - the Commerce Clause is in the Constitution.
*************
1. The Commerce Clause, as understood by our founding fathers, can’t be stretched to supersede state power over health and welfare. It’s already been stretched beyond belief.
2. An earlier comment asked whether we would want a President Biden ordering Texas to stay closed. You would do well to think about this.
Name the delegated power for a federal shut down, or to regulate commerce within a State, or to regulate activity that is not commerce but tangentially affects it?
Wickard v Filburn.
Read it and weep.

The Court arrogated Law to rule as it did.
Or as I just posted...
Likewise: name the role the Court plays in lawfully amending the Constitution.
Which is what they do when they find things that were never there.
Maybe enforce federal civil rights laws?
Wouldn’t be hard at all. Any use of state executive orders that violates civil rights laws is illegal.
1. The Commerce Clause, as understood by our founding fathers, cant be stretched to supersede state power over health and welfare. Its already been stretched beyond belief.
And there’s the controversy. Where is the balance between a state’s police power and the Commerce Clause?
And theres the controversy. Where is the balance between a states police power and the Commerce Clause?
One more controversy. Where’s the balance between a state’s police power and the Equal Protection Clause?
“Name the delegated power for a federal shut down...”
I assume it comes under the umbrella term “emergency powers” which were delegated to the president by acts of Congress, which power was delegated to the Congress by the Constitution. The same powers of delegation that allows the president to carry around the nuclear football, a power not delegated directly to the president by the Constitution.
You are likely correct - for sure he has some plans up his sleeve.
I made my own mask out of white tulle surrounded by wide bias tape. You need enough layers so it’s not too see through. It looks legit but you can easily breath through it.
Congress has the enumerated power to grant to others powers it does not itself possess?
The nuclear football is a bad example, for Congress does indeed have a specific enumerated Power to set rules for the armed forces, and our biggest munitions are possessed by same.
Actually, they have tried multiple times, with multiple different bills. All have been vetoed, and they are several votes shy of an overrule.
I think that most people are adequately woke to the notion that the democrats are, in fact, tyrants. And as such, people are ready for a major federal smack-down on the most tyrannical of the offenders.
