Tampa Bay Rays ace Blake Snell says he will not play this season for a reduced salary, especially because the risk of contracting the coronavirus is "just not worth it."
Snell voiced his opposition to Major League Baseball's reported proposal of a 50-50 revenue split with the players for a coronavirus-shortened season in a video posted to social media Wednesday.
"Y'all gotta understand, man, for me to go -- for me to take a pay cut is not happening, because the risk is through the roof," Snell said while answering questions on his Twitch channel. "It's a shorter season, less pay.
"No, I gotta get my money. I'm not playing unless I get mine, OK? And that's just the way it is for me. Like, I'm sorry you guys think differently, but the risk is way the hell higher and the amount of money I'm making is way lower. Why would I think about doing that?"

His choice, but bad decision. Another kid will get his big chance. If he does well, he will be on his way to a successful career and Blake will join the crowd of wannabes who almost became big stars. Hang on to his rookie card, though. It will be popular on the novelty table.
50% of something, is something.
0% of nothing, is nothing.
So is the risk any different at the higher pay rate?
Did MLB close down for the 1918 flu?

LOL! 36 million Americans out of a job and this guy is complaining that hell only make $5 million this year.
Actually, who here on FR really, really cares what the hell this guy feel about not playing.
Due to the Blue State governors, I doubt MLB is going to happen this year, anyway. Its a major American sport that isnt yet thoroughly dominated by race hustlers, so they have little incentive to let it resume.
Coward. Or else he’s just using the virus as a negotiation tactic. To hell with him. I’d rather see a WWII-style depleted league than see him take the field.
He is standing up for the paycheck that he deserves.
Nothing wrong with that.
Good for him.
Pssst. Hey Blake. You dont EVER have to play again as far as I am concerned. Your right it is too dangerous. Next time you go to a supermarket that is still full of food go ahead and convince yourself that the folks working there, the folks delivering the food, the folks preparing the food, are not at any risk.

I was thinking about the same thing...There are many people working, who are risking the exposure to virus...They do not get paid millions of dollars like Mr. Snell...
He should consider himself very lucky...He is getting paid millions for doing what he loves to do...
“Rays ace Blake Snell....”
Snell has a losing record for his yearly career since he started 16 games in 2016. The only good year he had was 2018 and that was his only winning season that has kept his career stats above the Mason Dixon line. He has a lot of strikeouts in 506 innings with 585. But he has also walked and hit 216, which is almost half of what he did there. And except for that one year, he hasn’t been in the top ten for the Cy Young or league MVP.
Maybe he needs to reflect on his worth to the team rather than to himself. And at the same time, reflect on what he’s given back to the fans in his accomplishments with the team. And if he is so concerned about earning his money being the ace of the staff, maybe he also needs to reflect that the Rays haven’t won a division title since six years before he threw his first ML pitch. An ace on a losing team? We can, also, say big fish in a little pond. You want the money, earn it. You haven’t since 2018 or before that.
