The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended wearing face coverings to help fight the spread of COVID-19, the coronavirus-caused sickness that's killed more than 302,000 people around the world. And governments in more than half the US states are making masks mandatory in various public settings.
But don a mask and stare at your iPhone or Android device to unlock it, and you quickly see the problem for facial recognition

When fascist fantasies collide.
I like learning about unintended consequences of things. How will this work out? Will you be required to wear a mask but pull it off to verify your ID before boarding a plane or other form of transport needing ID? Pulling off the mask defeats the whole purpose. There is a Mission Impossible episode in this somewhere.
Modulate a light, shoot that into the eye and scan that retina!
Jeez it aint that hard.

Think Retinal scans.
Don’t know how many posts I have seen about the Covid coming in thru eyes, many. Do the Retinal Scans work thru goggles? Whatever face covering works for the virus is not going to work for ID.

The real money maker will be the facial recognition time clock with integrated infrared thermometer for temperature scans.

The good ID/ER units in most hospitals provide a face shield to protect the eyes of the medical users and down to the lips.
